Communication Science Intern (Temporary)-International Arctic Research Center (IARC)

As a communicating science intern, you'll have the opportunity to work with scientists and gain hands-on training and experience in translating scientific concepts into accessible and engaging content for diverse audiences. The Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center seeks one intern for a summer 2026 internship. Current or recently graduated undergraduate students with an interest in science and society, science communication, or science policy are encouraged to apply.

During this internship you'll work with scientists and Alaska Climate Adaptation Science Center science communication experts to support research activities in a variety of topics (ecology, biology, environmental science) and generate creative and innovative communication products in a supportive, semi-structured environment. You’ll also work with the Alaska CASC team to support ongoing general communication work as needed.

The intern will report to Suzanna Caldwell and will build professional experiences and connections with Alaska scientists and research professionals.

To thrive in this role, you must be an upper level undergraduate, recently graduated, or a current graduate student, excited about learning more about science communication, and passionate about science. The successful intern will also have excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to follow detailed instructions and meet deadlines; the ability to work independently and as a team; and be organized and detail oriented.

Minimum Qualifications:

Current undergraduate enrolled at any university or recently graduated with an interest in science and society, science communication, or science policy.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus in Fairbanks or at the USGS office in Anchorage and is flexible on site schedule. This is a part-time, non- exempt temporary intern position. Intern hires will be placed in the appropriate pay scale grade and step based on education.
