Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Level 1 Recruit (Grade 77, Non-Exempt)
Work is performed under direct supervision. Participate in training programs. Apply basic security officer practices and procedures under the guidance of Team Lead / Trainer.

Level 2 Security Officer (Grade 78, Non-Exempt)
Work is performed under intermittent direction. Ability to perform job functions independently and is considered fully trained. One (1) year of experience in the security field, event staffing, or public safety is required.

Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills. Recordkeeping skills. Conflict resolution and organizational skills. Ability to operate computers and specialized equipment. Ability to exercise judgment under difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive a University owned and/or leased motor vehicle. Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, as directed by University of Alaska Board of Regents Policy, Alaska Police Standards Council, and FBI – Criminal Justice Information Systems requirements. Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law. Specific job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification may render the position security sensitive.

Special Conditions:
Shifts cover various times during the week/weekends/holidays covering a 24-hour schedule. Shifts and the schedule are determined by and set based upon departmental needs. This is a fulltime benefits eligible position. Must be available for recall to the university in emergency situations, position is considered "Tier 1 / Mission Critical" work and the department is organized along a standard law enforcement model. They must wear a uniform on duty, are subject to inspection, and are part of a formal chain of command. Must report for duty in emergency situations such as man-made or natural disasters.

Preferred experience in the security field, event staffing, or public safety.
Required Experience & Education:

Graduation from high school, vocational school or equivalent. College experience preferred.

Salary Information:

This is a part time, temporary position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77 or Grade 78, based on education and experience.
