This is a departmental labor pool for use by UAA's Aviation Technology Division (ATD), Aircraft Maintenance department in hiring part-time, temporary Aviation Mechanic's Helpers.

The general duties associated with this position can include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assisting aircraft maintenance personnel in the maintenance and repair of training fleet aircraft.
  • Performing routine duties such as furnishing materials, tools and supplies to the aircraft mechanic(s); lifting and holding materials in place during operation/installation; inflating tires, cleaning aircraft interior/exterior, etc.
  • Assembling and/or disassembling machines, equipment, components, and parts.
  • Cleaning and/or lubricating machinery, equipment, instruments, tools, work area, and power tools.
  • Performing general shop clean up and other duties as assigned.

To thrive in this role, the applicant will have knowledge of and experience using machines and tools used in the maintenance of general aviation aircraft. As well as the ability to understand and retain information provided verbally and/or in writing, and the ability to work cohesively as part of a team with multi-level guidance.

Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with aviation ground operations safety protocols are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum 3 to 6 months of dependable work history.

Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited Aviation Maintenance Program for Airframe and Powerplant Certification.

6 months experience helping aircraft mechanics maintain and repair vehicles, machinery and electrical equipment.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Aviation Technology Complex at Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage, AK. This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UA Temporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 76, $18.18/hour.
