The Department of Psychology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applicants for a tripartite (teaching/research/service) tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level with an anticipated start date of August 2024. We have a particular need for candidates with experience in teaching both in-class and online courses with multicultural proficiency and an ability to teach across multiple areas of psychology. This position entails the typical tripartite responsibilities of teaching, research, and service. Teaching in our program involves both traditional in-person courses as well as highly interactive online courses. Faculty in our department teach across several disciplines within psychology and need multicultural proficiency. For this position, we are looking for someone with expertise in statistics and research methods, as well as a background in health psychology, community psychology, cultural psychology, and/or social psychology. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in working with diverse populations, such as Indigenous peoples.

The UAF Psychology Department is a dynamic group of faculty with a commitment to multicultural perspectives which places a high priority on creating an environment supportive of the promotion of ethnic minorities, women, and persons with disabilities. Our undergraduate program is one of the largest at UAF, a small research university. Our program offers a growing online undergraduate degree program. Our department's mission is centered on health and well-being, with a particular focus on culture (especially Indigenous cultures) and rural populations. Psychology majors enjoy opportunities for participation in undergraduate research as well as community-based learning experiences.

To thrive in this role, candidates should have a strong interest in teaching and mentoring students in both face-to-face and online modalities, as well as in research. They need to be comfortable with learning and using instructional technologies in their courses. Candidates should also have an active program of research that could either be continued or adapted to the university and department’s focus on culture, health, and the issues faced by peoples of the circumpolar north. In addition, candidates will be part of a small, close-knit department that values teamwork, respect and mutual support and need to be comfortable working as an active team member.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful applicant must hold a Doctoral degree in Psychology at time of appointment (ABD minimum at time of application). They must have expertise in health psychology, community psychology, cultural psychology, and/or social psychology and statistics and research methods. The applicant must have experience teaching undergraduate psychology courses as instructor of record. developing and teaching interactive online courses and face-to-face courses across multiple areas of psychology. They must have experience mentoring undergraduate students and using instructional technologies in instruction, and an interest and/or experience in working with diverse populations.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
