The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Department of Natural Resources & Environment seeks innovative candidates for a 9-month tenure track faculty position (approximately 70% teaching, 20% research, and 10% service) at the Assistant Professor level. This is a joint appointment with the College of Natural Science and Mathematics (75%) and the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE) (25%). The successful candidate will have the option to extend the position to 12 months through external funding. Possible areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: environmental policy and/or law, sustainability science, forest sciences or ecology and human dimensions of natural resources. **A separate faculty NRE position with a Soil Science focus will be posted in the near future, this will be updated with the direct link.

This position is expected to teach approximately 3 courses per year which may include, but are not limited to: Introduction to Sustainability Science (NRM 111), Environmental Ethics and Action, (NRM 303), Environmental Laws (NRM 407), and Resource Management Planning (NRM 430). You will also have the ability to develop other courses pertaining to your specialty and the university's interest and needs. You will be responsible for advising and mentoring students (undergrad and graduate), obtaining internal and external research funding, and providing service to our clients and community.

UAF offers undergraduate (BS in Natural Resources and Environment) and graduate programs (MS in NRE, MS in Earth System Science, Ph.D. in Natural Resources and Sustainability, and Ph.D. in Earth System Science). Our programs integrate knowledge in natural science, policy, economics and human values to advance the sustainable management of natural resources and agricultural systems. Students learn through classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory experiences, internships and independent research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Caring for the Earth's resources makes for interesting study and rewarding careers.
Our courses and curriculum were developed in cooperation with groups and agencies that work professionally with resources management in Alaska. These agencies, including the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, U.S. Forest Services, Bureau of Land Management, Natural Resources Conservation Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, contribute significantly by providing guest lecturers, internships and research opportunities for students.

To thrive in this role candidates need to have a record of excellence in teaching (including as a teaching assistant), experience or potential and interest in mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students. The applicants also need to demonstrate research competence in a relevant field of study including but not limited to: decision making, environmental policy and law, sustainability, forest sciences or ecology, and the human dimension of natural resources. To contribute to the diversity and inclusion goals of the University, experience or demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population is required. In addition, the applicants need to demonstrate a record of research publications and presentations, and history of active participation in collaborative research, awareness of and ability to incorporate innovative and up-to-date technology in research and teaching.

Minimum Qualifications: 
PhD or terminal degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Geography, or related field.

Position Details: 
This position is located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, 9-month base appointment, FLSA exempt faculty position position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
