The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM) seeks a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor to join the Biology and Wildlife Department. This position will teach core courses required for a B.S. degree in Wildlife Biology and Conservation and build capacity to support a new B.A. degree in Wildlife Ecology and Society.

As a tenure-track faculty member, you will teach introductory (Intro to Wildlife) and upper-division courses (e.g., Mammalogy, Ornithology, Experimental Design) in both distance and in-person classroom, lab, and field modalities. You will also be tasked with designing 1-2 new courses that focus on experiential (field-based) learning and/or social science/arts/humanities fields (e.g., tourism, policy, communication, engagement and outreach, cross-cultural studies, Indigenous studies) with an emphasis on wildlife, to support the new degree and enhance the Wildlife Program's course portfolio. You will participate in curriculum development and other service roles within the department and the university. Service duties will include committee work, participation in curriculum review and development, service to the profession, mentoring of undergraduate and graduate research, and appropriate service to the public. The position has the option to build and maintain an externally-funded research program.
We would like for the successful candidate to be able to start at the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester.

To thrive in this role, candidates must have experience working with diverse students, supporting student retention, and assisting students in achieving academic and professional success. They must also have an advanced understanding of the fundamentals and principles of animal or wildlife ecology, excellent oral and written communication, engagement and collaborative skills, outstanding pedagogical skills, ability to design and teach courses in field-based, distance online and in-person modalities, and the ability to integrate wildlife ecology with social sciences, arts and/or humanities. The ability to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into your teaching is highly desirable. Individuals who are self-motivated, student-centered, and believe in excellence through teaching, research, collaboration, adaptability, and creativity will flourish within UAF's CNSM Department of Biology and Wildlife.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in ecology, wildlife ecology, or conservation or Ph.D. in other fields with experience integrating that field (through teaching or research) with wildlife conservation and management.
At least two years of teaching experience at the college level.
Experience teaching introductory and advanced with labs.
Experience teaching successfully in field-based, distance online, and in-person modalities.
Lead author of at least three peer-reviewed publications and experience as PI on at least one externally-funded grant.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Troth Yedda campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, FLSA exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
