ARCTIC Program Architect - Alaska Center for Energy and Power

  • Fairbanks, Alaska, United States

  • Staff Full-time
  • Grade 81
  • UAF AK Center for Energy & Power

The Alaska Center for Energy and Power is looking for a new team member to help the ARCTIC Program advance a new model for applied energy research across Arctic and Pacific regions, with a focus on microgrids and resilient energy systems in remote Alaskan communities.

As the ARCTIC Program Architect, you’ll help build the operational backbone of a collaborative research network tackling real-world energy challenges through community-driven innovation. This is your unique opportunity to support the systems, relationships, and research that are shaping the future of energy resilience in the North and beyond.

As a successful applicant, we are looking for you to bring your curiosity, care, and coordination to everything you do. This position is the one you have been looking for if you thrive working in community-centered research, program coordination, or educational settings, and you’re ready to deepen your impact by helping shape how a research program operates and grows. You’re someone who notices when systems aren’t working for everyone, and you have ideas about how to make them better. You know how to track the details, honor relationships, and turn shared goals into collaborative action. You seek to work in spaces where process matters as much as outcomes, and you’re energized by working with researchers and students, and building systems that reflect the voices and values of the communities involved.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree and four years research experience at the postgraduate level in a field relevant to the research (e.g. Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, and/or Energy), or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAF campus in Fairbanks, AK. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.

To be considered, please submit a cover letter, CV, references and a writing sample. The writing sample should be 1-3 pages in length and exemplary, clearly demonstrating your skills. Samples that you are the leading author on are preferred but other samples will be accepted. Examples of writing samples include documentation, technical report, final report, memo, briefing note, executive summary, research publication, training guide, thesis, newsletter, or blogpost. Please be sure to include a description of the nature of your contributions.

Applications may be reviewed on a rolling basis after the application deadline of June 22, 2025, 11:55 PM, until a successful candidate is identified. Search and selection procedures will be closed when a sufficient and viable number of qualified candidates have been identified.
