Arctic Field Technician - AK Climate Center

The purpose of the position will be to conduct operational work within the DOE- Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program, the Alaska Mesonet network, and to participate in other ongoing projects in the fields of atmospheric sciences.

To thrive in this role the candidate should be able to support field measurements using state of the art atmospheric instrumentation, support instrument deployment and related computer hardware and software, and help with the data transfer processes. The work includes ongoing tool development to control data quality and operational maintenance reporting. Familiarity with Unix and Windows operating systems are required; the work includes development and maintenance of operational tools such as databases and code for processing large amounts of measurement data. Successful candidates are expected to have a general mechanical aptitude and skills to troubleshoot computing and network problems associated with field instrumentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years college coursework in field relevant to the research (e.g. science, math, business) and two years experience in a field relevant to the research or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Experience working in remote locations, sometimes in extreme cold or adverse conditions.

A valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.

Position Details:

This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. The successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office on the first day of employment.

This position is full-time, Grade 77, term-funded, non-exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
