At ANSEP, we are dedicated to transforming education and career pathways for all students, with a special focus on supporting Indigenous Alaska students. Our mission is to increase representation of Indigenous people in STEM and other high-demand fields through a model that begins in middle school and continues through graduate school and into the workforce. Working at ANSEP means joining a team committed to excellence and opportunity - where we empower students to achieve their full potential and create lasting change for Alaska and beyond.

The ANSEP University Success component offers students professional paid internships with national partners, such as the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). The NFWF Program Manager is a temporary leadership position that serves as the primary on-site supervisor for the Washington, D.C. residential site. This role is pivotal in ensuring student interns have a positive residential and professional experience by overseeing the development of 23 undergraduate interns and directly supervising the NFWF Program Support Staff.

This position is responsible for the overall on stie success of the 8-week program, which includes managing day-to-day operations in D.C., ensuring compliance with risk management protocols, and overseeing program logistics and budgets. The Program Manager serves as the primary liaison between the D.C. site, NFWF staff, and ANSEP leadership in Alaska to ensure all programmatic needs are met. Key responsibilities include supporting student internship duties, managing residence life, coordinating ANSEP travel, and maintaining a supportive community environment through student coaching and behavior management.

Requirements & Logistics:

Residency: Must reside in the Varsity on K apartment complex in Washington D.C. for the entirety of the program.

Availability: Must be on-call during scheduled shifts, including nights and weekends.

Compensation: This is a salaried position. Housing and per diem will be provided and any remaining per diem will be reimbursed at the end of the program.

You must be a disciplined, detail-oriented leader who can balance the high-stakes requirements of risk management with the empathy needed to mentor undergraduate students. You will be most successful if you possess the ability to lead large groups through a busy D.C. summer while maintaining the firm professional boundaries essential to a residential environment.

We are looking for someone who stays calm under pressure—whether navigating the city with 23 interns or responding to a midnight emergency—and who can pivot quickly when schedules change. You’ll excel here if you have a background in residential life or camp leadership and a proven track record of supervising both staff and students with a blend of authority, organization, and care.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience related to the program, including at least one year of experience leading/supervising staff.
  • Some college coursework required; Associate’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Current CPR/First Aid training.
  • Experience leading a camp or student program, within a residential setting preferred.
  • Experience working with Rural or Indigenous populations preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Supervisory Skills: Ability to provide clear work direction and hold staff accountable for performance and conduct.
  • Risk Management: Working knowledge of risk management practices and the ability to interpret/apply complex policies.
  • Communication: Evidence of effective oral and written communication for reporting incidents and coaching interns.

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 or older by May 5, 2026. Current Alaska Driver’s License with a clean 3-year driving record.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds with or without accommodations.
  • Ability to reside on-site in D.C. for the duration of the program.
