The UAA Accounts Payable & Travel Department is seeking applications for a Student Assistant 2. This position will provide the student with accounting office experience on campus with flexibility around their school schedule. This position will assist with reviewing travel expense reimbursements, direct pay/employee reimbursements and invoices, filing, communicating with students, staff, faculty and vendors professionally, scanning and indexing files into our electronic file retention system, and assisting the AP & Travel Manager and staff as needed. This position is critical in ensuring compliance with UA BOR policies, State and Federal regulations, as well as providing a high level of customer service to the UAA community. The successful candidate will be a quick learner, detail oriented, have a high level of accuracy, and possess critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The UAA Accounts Payable & Travel Student Assistant 2 will be an integral part of the UAA Accounts Payable & Travel team. The UAA Accounts Payable & Travel team assists the University in meeting its operational needs by processing and disbursing non-payroll payments to vendors (companies and individuals), reimbursements to employees, and travel reimbursements to UAA business travelers (students, employees, and guests) in a responsible and timely manner, while ensuring compliance with the requirements established by University and Board of Regents policies, Federal regulations and State laws.

To thrive in this position the candidate should have intermediate experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Google Suite, filing (physical and/or electronic), and office equipment. The candidate should also be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:   

This position requires a high level of detail and accuracy, understanding of accounting principles and processes, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Ability to learn how to use software such as Banner, OnBase, and Concur. Ability to commit to 20 hours a week. Knowledge of GAAP, AP procedures, and UA Administration and Accounting regulations would be a plus.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Mail, and 10-key proficiently. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Experience filing and using office equipment.

Banner, OnBase, Concur, and Next Gen (other similar software) experience are preferred.

TYPICAL EDUCATION OR TRAINING:  

High school diploma and some college level accounting courses.

Preference will be given to qualified applicants that are Federal Work Study Eligible.

This is a pooled position and will remain open through June 2024.
