Classification and Compensation Specialist

Web Developer - Toolik Field Station
Toolik Field Station (TFS) is a research station operated and managed by the Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). TFS provides logistical, operational, and scientific support to visiting scientists conducting Arctic research. The field station population ebbs and flows throughout the year with a minimum population of 4 in the winter and up to 150 in the summer. While remote, TFS is like a small village during the summer months.
TFS is seeking a full time web programer to join our team. This position will be based out of Fairbanks at UAF and will be supervised by the Spatial and Environmental Data Center Manager. This role will continue the development of the TFS website and our web based applications through a dashboard that we call myToolik. This dashboard has become fundamental to the day to day operations of the station to both staff and researchers visiting the station. The apps are database driven so information can be shared between apps as needed. For example, a reservation is tied to a particular project and principal investigator, which in turn is tied to the billing report to generate an invoice. Station users access the system through personal accounts.

SBDC Rural Center Director
While the Alaska SBDC has many centers and advisors in physical locations in the major population centers across the state, there are over 250 communities that also need SBDC’s services. The Rural Center Director manages a virtual center that provides business advising services to rural entrepreneurs located in those communities. Over the past two years, the number of clients served by the Rural Center has increased 140% and continues to grow. The Rural Center Director provides business advising, develops online and stand alone business development tools, hosts in person and online events and trainings, develops and engages in partnerships geared towards supporting rural Alaska entrepreneurs and businesses. This position will focus on identifying new ways that the Alaska SBDC can continue to support rural Alaskan businesses to help them launch and grow. This will help the Alaska SBDC continue to not only cover the entire state, but also focus our efforts on the communities and businesses that don’t have access to the resources and support found in larger communities who need help the most.
