The UAS Student Resource Center (SRC) is seeking applicants to serve as a Peer Advisor during the 2021/22 academic year. This is a great opportunity to obtain professional customer service experience, while attending classes. Peer Advisors provide a wide range of customer service to the UAS community. They are often the first point of contact for questions and, therefore, play a critical role in assisting individuals in need of guidance. Peer Advisors have an in-depth knowledge of the University’s programs and departments. In their role, they are tasked with effectively providing or directing individuals to proper information, managing confidential information, and ensuring successful day-to-day operations of the Student Resource Center.The SRC is an information center for the student advising, recruitment, counseling, and activities staff. Applications will be accepted on an on-going basis and filled as positions become available.

KBNERR Community Engagement Liaison

KBNERR is part of a national network of 29 reserves that are supported through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and a state partner. In the national network of National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS), Kachemak Bay represents a high latitude, fjord estuary type. KBNERRs state partner is the UAA Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS). We also work closely with the KBNERR Community Council, a committed group of local residents and agency partners who meet quarterly to connect with KBNERR programs.
Kachemak Bay represents a special piece of Alaska’s coastline with beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, and a vibrant local community that draws deeply from the ecosystem for its well-being. Our work is dedicated to conducting research, monitoring, education, trainings and community engagement that bring understanding of regional ecosystems, and to assist people in making informed decisions that promote conservation and stewardship. We serve as a magnet and platform for researchers and students from the state of Alaska and around the country. Our areas of focus include coastal ecology, watershed ecology, and oceanography. We study the processes that contribute to the tremendous productivity of fish, shellfish, birds and mammals in the region, and the consequences of climate change and human activities to the resources we value. We provide a bridge between science and management, working with stakeholders, from children to adults, in remote villages, as well as cities.

Assistant Professor - Earth Surface Processes
The Department of Geological Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) seeks applications from exceptional candidates for a tenure track faculty position in the broad area of Earth Surface Processes to complement the fields of expertise in hydrology, environmental geochemistry, paleoclimate, petrology, structure, and stratigraphy. Although all areas of Earth Surface Processes will be considered, expertise in modeling of geomorphological, coastal, cryospheric, and/or marine intertidal processes is desired. This faculty appointment is intended to be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is associated with a $20 million 5-year National Science Foundation EPSCoR (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) grant that supports interdisciplinary research in the State of Alaska. The project is titled “Fire and Ice: Navigating Variability in Boreal Wildfire Regimes and Subarctic Coastal Ecosystems”. Contributing to the boreal fire component and the ability to integrate across the coastal margin component is fundamental to the project. The position is scheduled to begin as early as January 2021.
