On a typical day you will monitor networks and endpoints to prevent/detect breaches and other security issues. Security Engineers design, implement, maintain, and enhance key cybersecurity systems and services and ensure they conform with internal and external requirements and best practices. You may install and manage firewalls, configure or monitor applications and services, perform pentests, communicate with other internal stakeholders to assess and improve security, or support audit, assessment, or compliance efforts. Every day you will collaborate with your teammates (other Analysts, Engineers, and Student Analysts) to support enterprise-wide security initiatives.

To thrive in this role, you must be able to navigate and maintain a variety of cybersecurity systems and services, including next-generation firewalls, vulnerability scanners, administrative interfaces for cloud email, and endpoint security and protection. You’ll need strong written and verbal communication skills to convey your ideas and activities, as well as the ability to collaborate with people who have a wide range of technical knowledge. You need to be experienced, confident, and comfortable with the principles of information security and systems administration, and willing to research new ideas and solutions. You must be willing and able to achieve expert-level knowledge of email security in a blended environment, especially with regard to DMARC/DKIM.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of training, education, and documented professional experience.

One or more relevant IT/cybersecurity certifications (vendor-specific or those from bodies such as ISC(2), ISACA, SANS, etc.) desired at the time of hire, required within the first year of employment.

Travel and on-call are required.

This position can be based at the University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Alaska Fairbanks, or University of Alaska Southeast. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and a full employee benefits package.
