Are you ready to make a significant impact on the growth and success of small businesses in Fairbanks and North Pole? The Alaska Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Fairbanks Business Advisor to join our dynamic statewide team. Over the last five years, client intake in the Fairbanks Center has skyrocketed by 81%, making the role of a Business Advisor pivotal in driving business growth and economic development in the region. As a Business Advisor, you will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with small business owners and entrepreneurs, providing them with invaluable guidance and support across various aspects of their businesses.
To excel in this role, you will need a minimum of five years of business ownership or business management experience, including financial and personnel management responsibilities. Profound knowledge of business management principles, practices, and techniques. Strong financial planning, communication, and organizational skills. Experience in public speaking and workshop development. Proficiency in computerized tools, including G Suite Apps, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and GoToMeeting/Webinar. An understanding of federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations relevant to small businesses. The ability to build productive relationships with community leaders and stakeholders.
While not required, the following experiences and qualifications are highly desirable:
● Previous experience working with SBDC and SBA district, regional, or national offices.● Familiarity with business development in the Fairbanks area.● Strong public speaking skills.● Experience in the banking/finance industry.● Knowledge of angel/venture funding.
● Expertise in marketing practices related to small businesses.● Basic web development and SEO skills.● Understanding of small business Human Resources and labor requirements.● Familiarity with the Fairbanks Innovation/entrepreneurship community.● Exposure to International Trade.● A Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
