Position Summary:
Are you passionate about health and wellness? Do you want to empower people in your community to achieve a better quality of life? We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team as a nutrition educator with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) Program in Dillingham. The successful candidate will gain professional development and training opportunities. They will participate in wellness activities throughout the community, teach food preparation, food safety, nutrition, and food resource management and physical activity. They will recruit clients from eligible audiences and complete necessary client records as required. Job requires local travel within the District with a personal vehicle. This position requires a creative self-starter with basic computer skills and strong communication skills.. Knowledge of database entry and maintenance and the ability to file and organize large amounts of information.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Nutrition Education (SNAP-Ed) is a nationwide nutrition education and obesity prevention program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). SNAP-Ed provides evidenced-based nutrition education classes that are aligned with policy, systems and environmental change strategies to create long lasting community change.The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is an integral partner of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services in this statewide effort.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: |
Ability to work independently Ability to follow written and oral instructions Prior experience with culturally diverse, low-income persons and/or assistance agencies. Basic understanding of nutrition and physical activity Familiarity with assistance agencies and programs Experience delivering educational programs in traditional and nontraditional settings. Experience working with or willingness to learn MS Office Suite, email, Google Drive, voicemail, scanner, fax machine, copier, video conferencing and website navigation and other database programs and reporting.
Strong computer software skills. Ability to apply knowledge of specialty areas or subject material. Ability to apply knowledge of the operation of audiovisual and laboratory equipment, and of media and computer aided training. Ability to conduct classroom training, workshops or seminars; ability to use video, audio and other types of equipment to present training. Ability to plan and organize adult and/or child education training and facilitation activities; and to plan and evaluate training activities. Ability to lead. |
Preferred Experience & Education: |
One year experience in leading formal or informal educational activities or providing nutrition or community health services to individuals or groups

Required Experience & Education: |
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- May require licensure and/or certification.
- Six months experience leading formal or informal educational activities or providing nutrition or community health services to individuals or groups
- Valid Alaska Driver's License or the ability to obtain one

Salary Information: |
This is a part-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
