Position Summary:

The UAF Student Health and Counseling Center provides students with medical care, counseling services, health education, and health insurance assistance. We are looking for a qualified medical assistant to join our team. The medical assistant works in the medical and reception areas of the practice. The medical assistant provides a variety of clinical, general, and administrative duties, including greeting patients, taking vital signs, preparing exam rooms, completing assigned lab procedures, recording patient data within electronic medical records, and other assigned tasks in the general area of medical care under the direct supervision of a licensed medical provider. The medical assistant reports to the Associate Director of Medical Services. Full-time or part-time positions are available for 9, 10.5, or 12 month contracts. Full-time hours are available during the academic year from mid-August to mid-May. Part-time hours are available during the summer months. Occasional, but rare, evening and weekend work hours may be available. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, administrative medical office procedures, reception and scheduling, referral procedures, medical ethics, confidentiality, universal safety precautions, appropriate record keeping, and medicine inventory standards.
  • Trained in phlebotomy, injections and blood bourne pathogens.
  • Trained to do waived CLIA laboratory tests, ECG and Spirometry.
  • Proficient with computers, specifically Microsoft Office and Windows programs and knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
Preferred Experience & Education:
  • Two years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience as a medical assistant
  • Trained in phlebotomy and injections
  • Trained to do waived CLIA laboratory tests, ECG and Spirometry.
  • Familiarity with administrative medical office procedures and reception
  • Proficient with computers and knowledge of electronic medical records systems.
  • Familiarity with exam room preparation and clean up
  • Knowledge of universal safety precautions commonly used in health care settings
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with other medical and administrative staff
  • Good oral and writing skills
  • Proficient computers and knowledge of electronic medical records systems
Required Experience & Education:

Graduation from a certified medical assistant program and two years relevant experience, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time or part-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 77, based on education and experience.
