Position Summary:

UAS Facilities Services is looking for a seasoned part-time project manager or full-time junior project manager. This position is budgeted for 80 hours per pay period with a potential option to decrease hours or work a reduced contract if desired. This position is a range recruitment, and may be filled as a Facilities Engineering Level 3, Facilities Engineering Level 4, or Facilities Engineering Level 5, depending upon education and experience.The Project Manager manages capital improvement projects through planning, design, construction and closeout. The specific duties vary significantly depending on the size, complexity and importance of the project, along with the experience of the project manager.

Duties:

100Under the direction of an engineer, level 5, manages capital improvement projects through planning, design, construction and closeout. The specific duties vary significantly depending on the size, complexity and importance of the project, along with the experience of the project manager. UAS Facilities Planning and Construction department regularly redistribute duties between project managers to accommodate these variables. Potential duties include: • Coordinate with architectural and engineering consultants to prepare contract scope of services, schedule and fee. Guide design process so design documents meet UAS project objectives. • Review design & construction documents for compliance with project goals, university standards & codes, and appropriate design & construction practices. Coordinate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with regulations. • Prepare project budget and monitor the design & construction fund expenditures to ensure timely project delivery within the available funding. Initiate, coordinate, evaluate and process project changes to the contract documents. • Maintain project documents (drawings, specifications, change orders, as-builts, O&M manuals, etc.) during life of the project and then properly archive at project completion. • Maintain a credible professional relationship with staff, agencies, consultants and contractors to promote teamwork and avoid needless disputes. • Other duties as assigned through demonstrated abilities.Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Excellent ability to communicate clearly by phone, zoom, e-mail, formal letter and in person.
Knowledge about project management, construction and facilities operations.
Knowledge of civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical design drawings, specifications and construction practices.
Knowledge of Alaska procurement and contract laws
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in modern technology and common software programs including excel and word.
Preferred Experience & Education:
Two to five years of relevant experience managing capital projects.
Previous project management experience should include, program development, project planning, design, bidding, construction, and warranty administration.
Architectural or engineering experience in producing construction documents.
Construction industry experience with quality control, field inspection or construction work.
Experience with CAD software
Required Experience & Education:

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors of Science in any of the engineering / architectural disciplines or a combination of advanced education and experience in a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience managing capital projects ranging from several thousand to millions of dollars.

- Previous experience managing capital improvement projects, including program development, project planning, design, bidding construction,and/or warranty administration.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Previous experience should include
• Knowledge of civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical design drawings, specifications and construction practices.
• Proficient in modern technology and common software programs including excel and word.
Preferred Qualifications
• Project management experience that includes managing capital improvement projects, including program development, project planning, design, bidding, construction, and/or warranty administration.
• Knowledge about project management, construction and facilities operations.
• Architectural or engineering experience in producing construction documents.
• Construction industry experience with quality control, field inspection or construction work.
• Knowledge of Alaska procurement and contract laws.
• Excellent communication skills and the use of modern technology.
• Proficient in common software programs including excel and word.

Facilities Engineering Level 3 position will need to meet the minimum requirements.
Facilities Engineering Level 4 position will need to meet the minimum requirements and solidly meet three of the seven preferred qualifications. Facilities Engineering Level 5 position will need to meet the minimum requirements and solidly meet five of the seven preferred qualifications.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 80, 81 or 82, based on education and experience.

This position is a range recruitment, and may be filled as a Facilities Engineering Level 3 (Grade 80) , Facilities Engineering Level 4 (Grade 81), or Facilities Engineering Level 5 (Grade 82), depending upon education and experience.  New hires typically are placed somewhere between steps one and ten on the salary schedule (based on education and experience) with exceptional placements reaching between steps 11-27.
