Position Summary:
The UAS Sitka Campus invites applications for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Medical Assisting to begin in Fall 2023. The Medical Assisting program delivers online didactic instruction with face-to-face lab and clinical intensives in multiple rural communities. Responsible for maintaining Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accreditation for the program.
This is a full-time, 9-month, exempt tenure track faculty position, complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
Duties:
100Teach Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) Core Curriculum including Administrative and Clinical Procedures (didactic and laboratory) and MA Practicum. Courses may be delivered face-to-face, online, or hybrid. Assess student progress in meeting course and program learning outcomes.
Additional duties include continuous quality review and improvement of the program which includes: oversight of clinical space and equipment, course development, textbook/course materials selection, academic advising, program development/expansion, and accreditation tracking and reporting. Maintain currency in disciplinary subject matter, methodology, and pedagogy. Prepare for and participate in traditional academic functions. - Commitment to student-centered learning, student engagement and teaching excellence - Knowledge of current Alaska Medical Assisting scope of practice - Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to engage effectively and professionally with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and the public - Knowledge of education theory and techniques - Experience with student evaluation and outcomes assessment - Proficient computer skills related to teaching, communication, and discipline - Ability to teach effectively in an online/distance or blended/hybrid learning environment - Ability to work effectively in a faculty team, as well as function independently - Ability to work with community partners such as health care agencies, tribal organizations, and school districts to collaborate on community-based education needs - Ability to advocate for the university - Ability to travel |
Preferred Experience: |
REQUIRED - Clinical and academic teaching experience - Two years clinical and/or administrative experience in a healthcare setting related to the profession of medical assisting - Ongoing professional development in healthcare - Experience working with Alaska Native cultures and rural communities

Required Education or Training: |
- Minimum of an Associate's degree, Bachelor's degree preferred - Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) American Association of Medical Assistants ® (AAMA)
