Position Summary:
RAHI is a six-week college exploration program on the UAF Troth Yeddha’ campus for rural and Alaska Native high school students. Tutor Counselors are key to the student experience at RAHI, offering mentorship, tutoring, and recreation throughout the summer. Contract dates are 5/21/23-7/15/23.
Duties:
10Communication: This position will be required to communicate effectively and appropriately with staff and students.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Shift log maintenance
Listening and responding to student needs
Regular check-ins with RAHI staff and instructorsEssential
10Dorm Maintenance: This position will be required to help maintain dorm hygiene.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Routine cleaning
Set up and close dorm
Maintain dorm/student security throughout day and shift
Assess dorm needs and make appropriate requestsEssential
1-80Student Support: This position will foster student growth, success, and safety as they complete the RAHI program.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Attending RAHI courses and providing tutoring
Counseling Mentoring
Class attendance
Community-building
Event coordination
Conflict resolution
Provide transportation
Adhere to, enforce, and ensure compliance with policies and expectations of RAHI and UAF

RAHI is a six-week college exploration program on the UAF Troth Yeddha campus for rural and Alaska Native Students. Students live in dorms, enroll in an average of 9 college credits, and participate in recreational and volunteer activities throughout the program. RAHI is both challenging and rewarding for students and staff.
RAHI Tutor Counselors are responsible for the student experience at RAHI. They will provide encouragement, support, constructive criticism, and information to our students. They will create a community that is conducive to supporting student academic success, individual involvement, and growth. In addition, Tutor Counselors will be assigned a family group of 6-10 students and will provide them with academic and personal guidance and extracurricular activities.
Tutor Counselors are expected to ensure that all activities and student conduct meet RAHI and UAF policies and expectations and report issues to RAHI staff.
This position works directly with students and provides an opportunity to hone organizational, community-building, communication, and mentoring skills while fostering student development, forging relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds, and making an impact on education in Alaska.
Tutor Counselors work under the general direction of the RAHI Dorm Director and are required to live on campus, work up to 60 hours per week, and be available on-call. Due to the nature of this program, Tutor Counselors should expect to have little free time during the program. Room and board are provided.

Typical Experience: |
Experience working with high school students in a classroom, dorm, or camp setting. Peer counseling experience recommended.

Required Education or Training: |
Minimum of 30 university credits successfully completed Residential hall experience Drivers license and ability to demonstrate 3 years of clean driving record with no felony arrest or felony convictions Must be 21 or older to apply

Salary Information: |
This is a temporary staff position. New hires will be placed on the UATemporary Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 77, Minimum $20.47/hour, based on education and experience.
