Position Summary:

The Signers' Business Office is looking for a motivated Executive Officer to oversee the administrative and financial functions of the Chancellor, Provost, and Vice Chancellor (VC) of Student Affairs. The EO will supervise an office of 12+ employees that are remote, hybrid, or in-person and provide services of finance and grant management, human resources, and procurement for 40+ units and almost 700 employees. SBO services touch academics, research, athletics and outreach units. Duties:

1-50Oversee administrative and financial functions of the Chancellor, Provost and Vice Chancellor (VC) of Student Affairs. Service as chief advisor to the UAF Executive Officer and as needed to the Provost and VC of Student Affairs on daily operations including financial, human resources, facilities, communications and information and technology. Responsible for leadership and management of the Signers Business Office (SBO) and the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension (IANRE) business office functions including grants management, travel, procurement and equipment management. Compile financial expenditures and projections to prepare monthly management reports for departments under the Chancellor, Provost and VC of Student Affairs. Serve as an integral part and leader within SBO and IANRE business offices. Facilitate clear communication, continuity of policy and regulations and compliance. In consultation with the UAF EO, sets direction and policies for internal business processes and procedures for all units that report to the Chancellor, Provost and VC of Student Affairs.Essential
2-25Provide advice and guidance regarding staffing and faculty issues. Ensure compliance regarding UA human resources policies and regulations by reviewing and approving personnel transactions and developing internal procedures. Providing streamlined communications regarding updates and changes to regulations, law and policy regarding all aspects of academic operations with units that report to the Chancellor, Provost, and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. Supervise staff within the Central Administration Fiscal Office, as appropriate, provide leadership, direction, management and training in order to accomplish priorities. Create professional development plans for subordinates and perform employee evaluations. Serve in an advisory capacity when problems arise that cannot be solved. Develop and monitor internal administrative policies, procedures and standards to ensure strict compliance and optimal service to the research and academic community, faculty, staff and students.Essential
3-25Collaborate and advise in the development of short and long range strategies for the academic/research/service units. Provide financial and administrative expertise, theory and guidance on all business operations. Project future budget needs and provide recommendations for development of academic and research activities. Analyze internal processes and recommend and implement procedural or administrative policy changes to improve operations. Implement courses of action for resolving problems and reaching strategic goals set forth by the Chancellor, Provost, and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Demonstrate supervisory, planning, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Advanced analytical experience using sophisticated, integrated financial management systems.
  • Requires knowledge and judgement of inter-relations between academic units and the Provost Office.
Typical Experience:
Minimum five years of responsible, decision-making positions in private industry and/or academic/research administration. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting theory and analysis.
Required Education or Training:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field and five years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in accounting and business administration. Thorough understanding of all aspects of pre/post award sponsored program administration.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 82, based on education and experience.
