Duties:

10%Primarily Sponsored Unit Fund Accounting & Strategy Percentage of Time: 10% • Perform actions in accordance with policies (primarily funding to include cost share and match requirements) and compliance with all applicable federal, state, university, and contractual/agreement bound rules and regulations. • Support the prepare unit management reports for submission to the appropriate reporting unit after adequate review with the unit leader and include an analysis of fiscal spending, trends, and strategic recommendations both short and long term. • Support the preparation of cumulative college (or unit) based fund 2 reports for submission to the college (or unit) leader and include an analysis of fiscal spending, trends, and strategic recommendations both short and long term.Essential
10%Process Development/Improvement and Training Percentage of Time: 10% • Learn and execute changes in the array of fiscal and proposal development services offered by the Unit according to opportunity, need, customer demand, and trend analysis. • Receive training & mentorship from more senior Research Administrators regularly and on an as-needed basis. This may be on a 1-to-1 basis or in groups.Essential
10%Sponsored Project Accounting & Strategy Percentage of Time: 10% • Perform actions in accordance with policies (primarily funding to include cost share and match requirements) and compliance with all applicable federal, state, university, and contractual/agreement bound rules and regulations. • Support more senior research administrators by preparing and reviewing portfolios of projects monthly with principal investigators for each of their externally funded projects. Create or support creation of a monthly financial recon to include labor projections and review programmatic deliverables or similar documentation to guide discussion.Essential
30%Post-Award Management Percentage of Time: 30% • Perform post-award management activities as assigned derived from interactions with unit leaders and principal investigators. Activities are primarily fiscal in nature but may include coordinating a request for hire of personnel and approving fiscal allowability, initiation of cost transfers (e.g. LR, JV, etc.), initiation of recharge center invoices and billings, creation of sponsor requests, budget development for funding modifications and revisions, account and expenditure reconciliations, effort certification, travel authorization and expenditure planning, participant and research support payments, etc. • Engage in project execution, under the supervision and guidance of a Managing RA or Senior RA, with the principal investigator based on financial and programmatic guidance including assistance addressing compliance with federal, state, local, and private statues, regulations, and/or conditions identified in the contract and the scope of work from inception through processing of closeout forms and ensuring compliance. • Perform, as assigned, internal processes necessary for completion of the post-award management fiscal task and address or coordinate how to rectify issues that may arise throughout execution process in other university offices.Essential
30%Proposal Development Percentage of Time: 30% • Review and annotate potential funding opportunities for more senior research administrators. • Support the process as assigned from idea inception to proposal completion with a more senior research administrator or under the supervision of a senior research administrator with a principal investigator providing primarily financial and regulatory information but may include programmatic guidance and assistance addressing compliance with federal, state, local, and private statues, regulations, and/or conditions identified in the solicitation and the scope of work. • Perform under supervision the internal process review of fiscal information necessary for submission of proposal package to the Office of Sponsored Programs and address or coordinate how to rectify proposal issue prior to submission to the sponsor to include but not limited to preparing the OSP spreadsheet (internal form), transmittal form and ensure appropriate accounting is correct, cost share and match form, prepare and/or assist in writing the budget justification, and prepare any applicable agency budget forms. Review internal employee salary rates or provide information for costing. Verify indirect cost rates and fringe benefits rates were used correctly.Essential
5%Crosstrain with OSP and SS Percentage of Time: 5% • Participate in a cross-training and execution plan with leaders of offices of common interaction to provide as needed coverage.Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database development, and query development specific to financial or budget analysis.
  • Knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations associated with capital and operating budgets.
  • Ability to analyze and implement improvements.
  • Knowledge of fiscal related rules and regulations, and the ability to interpret and apply those rules and regulations.
  • Ability to guide work of lower level positions in a secondary capacity (as a back up).
Typical Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics or related field and 2 years professional fiscal experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Education or Training:

2 years professional fiscal experience and Bachelor’s degree in accounting, statistics or related field and or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, term-funded, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
