Position Summary:

The Office of Planning, Analysis, and Institutional Research (PAIR) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for an Institutional Reporting Specialist to join our team. This role will support the university by reporting on enrollment management issues and administering student course evaluations. The successful candidate will be an exceptional team player who embraces UAF’s mission and six strategic goals.


1-3535% - Report on enrollment management issues such as retention and persistence, enrollment reporting, applications and admissions, financial aid, tuition and fees, enrollment funneling, degree attainment, and other issues related to student success.  Support office performance reporting efforts to include performance review, operational review, program review, annual unit plans, and accreditation. Assist with metric analysis and development. Build upon and expand understanding of higher education, its role in society, issues related to higher education access, minority populations, student success, university research and development, and institutional research and its role in higher education. Gain an intermediate level of competency in SAS, SQL, Toad for Data Analysts, Microsoft Power BI, Ellucian Banner, and the UA Data Warehouse. Explore and act upon research opportunities in higher education. Independently conduct data extractions, and develop analysis methods and practices. Assist office staff in learning tools and methods for which you have a demonstrated knowledge base. Become a knowledge resource in a few broad areas of importance to institutional research such as student information, human resources, academic research and development, student assessment, financial aid, peer institution analysis, performance benchmarking, national reporting standards in higher education, national higher education databases, developmental education, distance education, higher education cost analysis, or other areas as required. Regularly use statistical analysis and its applications, to include the use of multivariate analyses, to discern information from data sets. Independently troubleshoot data problems and ensure data integrity.Essential
2-3030% - Be the primary developer on a small cross-functional team of PAIR Analysts in order to generate and automate business intelligence reports, quantitative analysis, dashboards/visualizations, data quality feedback loops/reports, and ad hoc reporting to support the decision making needs of the university. Build collaborative relationships with Subject Matter Experts across UAF to add to knowledge base and metadata repositories in the Student, Research, Human Resources, and Finance data domains; Bring people together and translate their feedback into actionable data solutions; Identify opportunities for improvement and assess new technology and concepts that can add value to the use of information resources.Essential
3-2525% - Oversee the coordination and daily tasks with eXplorance Blue (Student Course Evaluation Survey), which includes providing access to departments, setting up survey forms, creating reports for supervisors, and processing student assessment surveys. Manage archiving of course evaluation results from all courses evaluated each year. Provide technical support, training and communication on course data, course evaluation deadlines, survey results and summary reports, student and instructor conflicts, and evaluation response rates. Work closely with eXplorance Blue staff and technical support to ensure program functionality and programming. Coordinate with various teams and offices to ensure accessibility to student course evaluations. Collaborate with the Faculty Senate on student course evaluation policies and regulations and then implement updates. Collaborate on projects to improve the student course evaluation systems and experiences. Update in-house training materials, problem solving as issues arise throughout the year, reporting to the Vice Provost and Faculty Services Manager as needed.Essential
4-1010% - Design, maintain, expand and scale PAIR’s website for external and internal communications - Review major website changes with PAIR director and University Relations staff for comments and feedback. Import, organize and edit page contents. Consult with University Relations staff to ensure compatibility of PAIR’s website with UAF web and graphic guidelines; accessibility guidelines; copyright compatibility; overall usability including clear organization and architecture, and easy navigation; overall design quality and visual appeal; cross-compatibility with a variety of web browsers; appropriate, unique, correctly spelled, accurate, and timely content. Resolve issues as they occur. Working with office management, determine and maintain a level of professional development that fits with personal career interests and motivations.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: • Proficiency in SQL, SAS, Microsoft Office Suite, and Microsoft Power BI (or equivalents); on the job experience with relational database concepts and collaborative table design to support reporting, statistical analysis and ad hoc requests; Strong knowledge of data structures and ability to efficiently query/transform data; Ability to conduct research into data quality issues and outliers.
• Proficiency with Macintosh and Windows operating systems, Internet, web browsers, file security encryption, file compression and conversions, and content management systems.
• Ability to quickly learn and incorporate new technologies.
• Ability to think big picture and dive deep into details; Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
• Excellent listening and interpersonal skills; Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language; Strong negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills; Good oral and written communication skills as well as group presentation skills; Ability to be considerate of and to be sensitive to human factors present in discussing data and performance measures with end-users.
• Highly self-motivated and self-directed, with an ability to bring enthusiasm and energy to foster a collaborative team environment; Demonstrated experience working under pressure with frequent changes to reporting output in response to changes in reporting needs.
Typical Experience:
One year of research experience in a field relevant to the research (mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, science, business), or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required Education or Training:

Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, science, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
