University of Alaska Fairbanks Disability Services is seeking an energetic, positive, detail-oriented individual as a Student Accommodations Manager. This position engages directly with students to determine eligibility and reasonable accommodations through an interactive process, connect students with assistive technology, works directly with contractors providing accommodation services, and oversees the testing center and assistive technology lab. We enjoy supporting individuality, promoting independence and working toward providing an accessible experience for all through universal design and best practices.
1-45%Accommodations: This position works under administrative supervision and work is led in collaboration with department leadership. This position incorporates wide and generally autonomous responsibilities. Meets with students by appointment and drop in. Collect documentation, determine eligibility, and recommend/coordinate appropriate accommodations/access and academic support services for students who experience disabilities, in accordance with the federal, state, and university disability laws, regulations and policies. Work directly with students requesting accommodations through intake counseling sessions.
Design, deliver, and assess academic access services, auxiliary aids and adaptive technology for students experiencing disabilities. Implement accommodations by helping students and faculty log into online file system (Accommodate), check equipment in and out, coordinate furniture placement across campus, administer and proctor tests, operate as a scribe/reader when needed. Supervise, schedule and maintain DS database of student exams for DS population.
Supervise, schedule, coordinate and maintain the DS Testing Center to ensure both academic integrity and ADA/Rehabilitation Act 504 compliance.
Coordinate and supervise all aspects of alternate format services to students who, because of a disability, require textbooks and other course materials in an alternate format (e.g., electronic text, large print, Braille).
Assist with providing training, guidance and professional development on DS programs and services, as advised by the department leadership.Essential
2-25%Office Management: Maintain filing systems and utilize the DS online data management system (Accommodate). Arrange meetings, guest speakers, and training sessions. Organize departmental activities each year. Order and receive office supplies and maintain inventory of supplies and University property. Lead student employees and collaborate on hiring, training, assigning and reviewing work and time sheets.
Answer multiline telephone system, taking and routing messages. Create and maintain annual calendar and schedules of events and activities, noting relevant deadlines and appointments. Create and type newsletters, brochures and flyers using Microsoft Word/Publishing. Open and distribute mail. Set up for meetings, take minutes and provide support to Director. Respond to inquiries about DS services, UAF locations and procedures.
Daily oral and written communication and interaction with individuals requesting information or contacting our office, including administration and campus leadership, faculty, staff, students, parents, agencies, prospective students, community members, and other individuals.
Communication and coordination for proctoring exams with faculty, ensuring both the timely secure receipt and secure return of exams in the appropriate manner designated by each faculty member and student, ensuring timely participation in taking scheduled exams within established protocols.
Work with the vice chancellor's business office on all HR and payroll related items. Other duties as assigned.Essential
3-25%Technical Support: Coordinate with OIT for appropriate downloads to fix problems or installation of new software/hardware. Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of the DS test lab procedures, software, and hardware setup. Produce data query to obtain student information. Advertise DS related events, announcements and workshops via website, social media, Engage, Nanook Navigator, UAF Online calendars, and campus publications. Update software with templates, equipment, testing space and ensure applicable policy changes are reflected in operation and use of the software.
Provide, maintain, and report statistical and data records of student applications and service requests. Supervise the flow of DS data and assessment internally and throughout Student Affairs. Assist the director in gathering and tracking essential key performance indicators to support DS assessment and alignment to University vision/mission. Assist the director in analyzing and utilizing the data to improve DS direct services and support.Essential
4-5%Budget: Assist with fiscal duties including making budget projections and purchasing to include researching and negotiating price. As Procurement Card holder, make purchases and maintain documentation of purchases as well as reconciliation with approving authority. Commit expenditures with Director’s approval. Assist with reconciliation between soft ledger and Banner Finance and produce management reports. Assist with tracking contractual services including Brailling, note taker services, sign language interpreter services pertaining to the budget and management reports. Track leave projections as related to budget. Provide support for preparation of monthly departmental budget reports.Essential

- Awareness of best practices, federal and state laws and legal issues associated with and applicable to individuals with disabilities, student services and/or higher education.
- Office Management skills, secretarial skills, communication, delegation, leadership and supervision skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, google suite and a publishing program.
- Basic accounting skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Knowledge of Banner Student or ability to learn.
- Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills for various populations.
- Exemplary coordination and scheduling skills as it pertains to high volume testing times (especially mid- terms and finals).

- Ability to troubleshoot situations to determine the best course of action.
- Ability to apply theories gained through experience and education.
- Ability to lead and/or supervise.
- Preferred KSAs include: Knowledge of federal and state disability laws, ADA, UAF policies related to disabilities, diversity and inclusion. Experience with Accommodate or other Disability Services Software system, Microsoft Office Suite, Blackboard, Canvas, Accounting & UAF Budget Policies. Knowledge of screen readers, assistive technology, and/or universal design. Knowledge of multicultural, diversity, and disability related issues. Counseling, behavioral intervention or coaching experience preferred.
Two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience as a case manager or advisor.
|Required Education or Training:
Bachelor’s degree in related field and two years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.
