Position Summary:

The Chukchi Campus is looking for a Program Development Specialist to lead the development of adjunct faculty and courses for the region and our partners. This position requires a blend of creativity and working knowledge of the region and its communities to be effective.

Duties:

1-60Academic and Vocational Program Development: Identify, develop, and maintain programs and courses to meet the regional needs of community partners such as: Alaska Technical Center, Maniilaq Association, NANA, and Northwest Arctic Borough School District (NWABSD). Assess the local community needs for credit and non-credit instruction and work with Chukchi Campus staff to facilitate course creation for registration each semester. Recruit and develop qualified regional adjunct faculty and local knowledge instructors. Procure and develop all Special Topic Courses offered by Chukchi Campus. Utilize emerging technologies to expand and deliver programs to rural sites as appropriate. Prepare course and adjunct instructor materials and submit for approval through the process according to UAF policy. Prepare course schedule forms for submission to Enrollment and Course Director at the College of Rural and Community Development (CRCD). Serve as liaison for adjunct instructors to coordinate instructor orientation and instructional training in conjunction with other Chukchi Campus staff. Work with adjunct instructors to ensure they are meeting grading deadlines. Work within the Chukchi Campus team, and coordinate logistical details for community courses (shipping materials, organizing classrooms, etc.). Work with campus director to seek funding opportunities as appropriate for partner requested courses. Administer relevant program activities with responsibility for monitoring objectives, priorities, and strategic plans and deadlines for projects. Compile relevant data and compose weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to be submitted to the campus director. Publicize and market course offerings; utilize desktop publishing and social media. Provide Senior Student Services Manager at CRCD with semester course offerings for each semester as requested.Essential
2-25Partnership Development: Develop and maintain partnership with the NWABSD to research, identify, and implement academic, dual credit, Tech Prep and vocational courses for credit throughout the region’s schools. Develop and maintain partnership with NANA Shareholder Relations Coordinators to determine village course interests in their respective communities and offer them the opportunity to assist with course development. Develop and maintain partnerships with local and regional organizations such as: Alaska Technical Center, Maniilaq Association, NANA, Northwest Arctic Borough School District (NWABSD), and others. Develop and maintain partnerships with UAF campuses and departments in order to expand access to academic and vocational programs for Chukchi Campus.Essential
3-25Representative Activity: Serve on local, regional, and statewide task forces to represent the Chukchi Campus, meet the emerging needs of CRCD and the Chukchi Campus. Serve on boards of regional agencies when appropriate.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of the University of Alaska environment, regulations and procedures. Ability to develop and maintain partnerships within the community. Knowledge of decision-making strategies and problem-solving techniques. Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking. Strong computer-based skills associated with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, and social networking programs. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work as an influential part of a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to travel to the villages in the Chukchi Campus service area.
Typical Experience:
Bachelor's degree in related field and two years relevant experience. Cross cultural experience in rural Alaska and Northwest Arctic Borough preferred.
Required Education or Training:

Three years college coursework and three years progressively responsible experience related to
the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 10.5-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule (Kotzebue), Grade 79, based on education and experience.
