Position Summary:

Center ICE is hiring an Associate Director to manage recently-launched project as well as to pursue and develop new projects. All work pertains to developing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurialism and building related programs and partnerships.


1-65This position will fill grant and contract requirements that focus on developing an innovation ecosystem with DOD partners, advancing blue economy technologies, and developing a workforce for 21st century industries. This includes, but is not limited to, recruiting clients, developing relationships with federal sponsors, seeking funding sources for commercialization of technologies, building relationships between the business and scientific communities, developing informational sessions, running accelerator cohorts and tracking program metrics. Work with the Center ICE Director to coordinate strategic approaches to developing an innovation ecosystem. Elevate Center ICE within UAF and more broadly across Alaska through development and delivery of high quality programming as well as through partnership. Assist in preparing market and competitive analyses, SWOT analyses, and financial due diligence reviews. Implement marketing strategy, commercialization plans, and business plans.Essential
2-15Responsible for putting together and holding seminars, workshops, and sessions to engage faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders. Design and implement group educational and outreach programs about Center ICE and RISE-UP.Essential
3-15Strategic planning to achieve sustainability of programs, with focus on agency and industry partnerships, assessing and prioritizing industry challenges, and linking opportunities for applied research with University capacities. Representing UA to industry, non-profit, community, and government stakeholders to develop value for UA. Facilitate streamlining of UA processes to meet industry needs.Essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Demonstrated supervisory, planning, problem solving, decision making and leadership skills. Strong public administration skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use Google suite of tools and Microsoft software.
  • Ability to work with a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to teach and communicate effectively in a classroom setting to a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of the process for protecting and commercializing intellectual property, the lean startup methodology, and customer discovery, or the ability and interest to gain this knowledge.
  • Ability to develop working relationships within the University of Alaska and with external partners and constituents.
  • Knowledge of contracts and grants preparation and management. Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
Typical Experience:
Minimum five years in responsible decision making positions in private industry, higher education, and/or research administration
Required Education or Training:

Masters degree in relevant field and five years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 83, based on education and experience.
