Position Summary:

The Alaska MEP Sales Manager will be responsible for selling Alaska MEP (Manufacturing Extension Partnership) services, workforce training, and other similar services to private sector manufacturers. Responsibilities include 1) functioning as an Alaska MEP team member, including assisting in the achievement of the Alaska MEP plans and goals; 2) generating revenues based on annual sales goals and coordination of end-to-end client contracts from project inception to final closeout; and 3) keeping current on workforce training, services and product development needs of the Alaska manufacturing sector – to keep offerings relevant. To succeed in this role, you will be expected to be proficient in developing relationships with manufacturers to increase revenues through selling Alaska MEP solutions to manufacturers and achieving or exceeding sales targets in support of the Alaska MEP goals. The Alaska MEP Sales Manager may be responsible for any of the following: client and contractor recruitment; supervising individual project deliverables or personnel; course planning and implementation; and coordinating cross-function teams. This position relies on an energetic, highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can successfully manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment while coordinating with NIST personnel and internal UA stakeholders.

Duties:

20PERSONNEL, CONTRACTOR, AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Serve as a critical point of contact to all contactors of the Alaska MEP and UA personnel supporting Alaska MEP projects in conjunction with the Alaska MEP Director. Maintain effective Alaska MEP team relationships. Duties will include, but are not be limited to the following: ● Assist in the development of systems and practices for contractor and UA personnel engagement on Alaska MEP projects and services; ● Provide any contractor training and orientation to UA policies and practices; ● Monitor contractor performance, performance evaluations and client deliverable(s); ● Develop internal methods for tracking client and contractor metrics; and ● Initiate, track, and engage throughout the full process the successful completion of NIST MEP client surveys for reporting purposes.Essential
35CLIENT DEVELOPMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND RETENTION DUTIES Conduct client needs assessments and perform sales calls with prospective and existing Alaska MEP clients to advance the relationship and identify client service needs. Create and sell customer-specific products and services based on the Alaska MEP portfolio. More specific tasks may include, but are not limited to the following: ● Develop and foster relationships with Alaska MEP clients across multiple levels of the business and organizational structure; ● Design and develop a database maintained in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system that tracks qualified leads attained through consultant referrals, face to face meetings, calls, direct mail, email, and networking; ● Engage the Alaska MEP team in the CRM system with an overarching goal of expanding the Alaska MEP customer base; ● Maintain accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities including sales calls, presentations, closed sales, and follow up activities across Alaska; ● Keep current on workforce development needs, policies, and training specifics statewide and locally – particularly changes within the manufacturing sector; ● Generate training and consultive proposals based on client needs or RFP and in consultation with qualified faculty, trainers or other subject matter experts; ● Coordinate at least five (5) specialized trainings per quarter; ● Assist in the implementation of the Alaska MEP marketing plan; ● Assist with the writing of all proposals, budgets, related contracts, etc.; ● Assist with UA pre- and post-proposal development and processing as well as contractual and client correspondence via multiple agencies and clients; ● Assist with editing and production of final contractual bids to ensure all are prepared and delivered on time and as required working towards independent contractual bid production; ● Review, evaluate, and edit research reports and project deliverables prior to client delivery; ● Participate in the preparation and manage the distribution of Alaska MEP reports ensuring all technical assistance programming is incorporated including: mid-term and annual reports, client documents, and publications of the Alaska MEP; and ● Manage existing contracts: developing tracking and internal reporting systems, support client communications, maintain up-to-date records, working with project teams to ascertain each client engagement is meeting proposed expectations.Essential
35CLIENT SALES This key position will lead the selling of MEP (Manufacturing Extension Partnership) services, workforce training, and related MEP services to manufacturers and businesses across Alaska. To succeed, you will be expected to achieve sales targets and increase revenues by selling solutions applicable to Alaska manufacturers. Intentionally raise awareness of Alaska MEP offerings. Generate MEP revenues based on annual sales goals. Support activities that drive potential clients to the Alaska MEP, including, but not limited to: ● Responsible for all sales activities to include: audits, training and developing client specific solutions that may require the incorporation of a contractor; ● Sell a minimum of twelve (12) client projects per quarter; ● Document customer interactions and other leading sales indicators; ● Maintain data related to activities, accounts, contractors and partner organizations; ● Develop and implement new programs, sales initiatives and strategies to ensure Alaska MEP metrics are achieved; ● Work with team members to ensure a strong web presence as a marketing and sales backbone for the Alaska MEP; ● Coordinate with other MEP team members to deploy social media strategy (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) to leverage online and print media communications; ● Assist in the development and dissemination of survey instruments to determine program awareness and test acceptance of Alaska MEP offerings; ● Ensure high levels of customer service and independently respond to external complaints and communicate closely with executive staff on these matters; and ● Proofread, verify and review all materials to ensure highest levels of professionalism.Essential
5OTHER DUTIES Public representation, extensive statewide travel (some overnight), managing costs for greatest direct service engagement, and office management. Serve on high-profile and key advisory panels and boards that promote and gain statewide brand recognition.Essential
5PARTNERSHIP COMMUNICATIONS AND EXTERNAL ENGAGEMENT Facilitate cooperative relationships with all partner agencies, including business and industry associations, career centers, service organizations partnering with the Alaska MEP, economic development organizations, chambers, etc. Facilitate cooperative relationships with the various University of Alaska academic units. Assist with the development of training services that naturally link and align. Design cross-selling programs and campaigns with Alaska MEP partners. Serve as a community resource and liaison for the Alaska MEP and the products and services of the Alaska manufacturing sector.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: The Alaska MEP Sales Manager will serve as a leader and critical thinker, ready to solve problems and make decisions with minimal supervisory input.

The successful candidate will possess strong sales and project management skills; knowledge of project development, implementation, and tracking; performance measurement; and client and contractor management. The candidate must possess strong writing and oral communication or public speaking skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and work efficiently and effectively in independent and collaborative situations. Preference will be given to individuals with Lean Six Sigma green belt certification, project management, and prior sales experience.
● Aptitude for identifying client challenges and selling them solutions;
● Ability to decipher the common needs of manufacturers to aid them in achieving common goals;
● Ability to relate well to support staff, faculty, senior executives, and contracting professionals;
● Good judgment, tact, and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters;
● Excellent organizational and leadership skills with the ability to work under time pressures, multiple simultaneous demands, multiple stakeholders while maintaining excellent attention to details;
● Advanced knowledge of social media best practices, and an ability to formulate and implement social media strategies;
● Project negotiation, sales closing, management, and implementation skills;
● Basic knowledge of google apps products; and
● Excellent written communications required, including intermediate to advanced computer skills, utilizing Microsoft Office programs, e.g., MS Office, PowerPoint, and Internet applications.
Typical Experience:
● Bachelor’s in business, marketing, or manufacturing-related field.
● Demonstrated experience selling services to manufacturers or services provided to manufacturers.
● Demonstrated experience and proficiency in marketing services.
● Demonstrated skills in establishing and maintaining effective support and working relationships with various public and private stakeholders.
● Strong overall organizational skills and proven ability to work well with others.
● Possess solid knowledge of manufacturing issues/challenges and the ability to deliver solutions/improvement opportunities:
● Experience with the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award program.
● Experience with Lean Six Sigma (green belt preferred) or Lean business consulting.
● Experience facilitating and leading internal and external strategic planning and needs analyses - including leading or coaching clients through these activities.
● Experience with delivering federal programs, including implementation and reporting.
Required Education or Training:

● Operational knowledge of Alaska’s manufacturing sector, manufacturer needs, and established relationships with manufacturers.
● Operational knowledge of sales systems, including tools, software, and development of performance dashboards. Knowledge of database programs and efficient/effective use of these databases;
● Ability to monitor, coordinate, and manage a diverse mix of client, staff, and contract staff member delivery and performance as prescribed by MEP client needs;
● Demonstrates and is proficient in directing own activities, receiving only general direction, while working within a moderately complex work environment;
● Internally motivated and commitment to performance excellence; and
● Strong analytical, organizational and project management skills.

Bachelor’s degree in related field and five years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Master’s degree preferred. 

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
