Position Summary:

The Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is recruiting for two DevOps System Engineers to join our dynamic research-oriented team. 1-40Development and Technical Projects: Responsible for the development of professional quality code that adheres to appropriate IT standards and satisfies user requirements. Work methods and decisions are independently reached and involve a combination of pre-defined directions and innovative approaches. Collaborate with teammates to design and implement new secure, fault-tolerant, and efficient software systems as well as improve and modernize existing systems. Through consultation with higher levels, establish and review requirements for design changes to operational systems. Analyze and test new and existing software. Improve technical skills in software development to stay ahead of emerging technologies and rapidly evolving cloud ecosystems. Interact with the open-source community or technical support to solve problems when necessary. Assist and mentor other members of the department. This will include reviewing team members’ code and providing feedback. Implement software deliveries using modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) methods with minimum impact on operations. Professionally document current processes, systems, and software. Participate in user work team meetings to provide strategic and technical guidance.Essential
2-35System Maintenance: Perform system maintenance and software tuning, install upgrades and modify the software to support existing and added features and functionality. Maintain interface integrity between data, production, and distribution systems. Analyze and quantify internal trouble reports to scope software repair, requirements, and schedule. Complex problems are resolved through consultation with the supervisor. Review historic and current subsystem deficiencies to minimize any inheritance of operational problems with maintaining software. Create, maintain, and improve upon departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs). Lead the creation of new documentation and update existing documentation to reflect modifications and existing systems and projects in partnership with other team members at Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP).Essential
3-25Communication: Provide supervisor with adequate prior notification for planned impacts to normal operations. Record and report appropriate and timely levels of detail regarding the status of projects and work performed to the supervisor and other ACEP program project managers. Provide cross-training to other staff. Serve as the expert resource for a specialized functional area and/or a project manager. Act as a technical interface between the organization and external development contractors to ensure compatibility of hardware and custom application software. Conduct clear, correct, concise, and professional presentations when asked for internal audiences and external parties. Prepare for detailed discussions in meetings. Use effective interpersonal skills in oral and written communications. Solicit and accept feedback from others in a professional manner.Essential

Required Experience, Education or Training:
Bachelor's degree in information technology, software development, or science research field and 4 years of experience in a science or IT field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Salary Information:

This position is full/-time, Grade 81, term-funded, exempt, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, based on education and experience.

This position is located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. Remote work agreements will be considered for this position.
