Position Summary:

The UAS Ketchikan Campus invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of History to begin in Fall 2023. The position will be located in Ketchikan, Alaska and teach online courses in support of general education students and the online Bachelor of Arts in Social Science degree. The position will also coordinate on-campus and community-based history education offerings.

Duties:

100The workload for this position is bipartite to include teaching and service (no research) Teach 12 credit hours per semester to include undergraduate courses and survey-level US and world history content and upper-level history courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description. Hold office hours appropriate for the courses being taught. Perform appropriate university and public service.Essential
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:
1. PhD in History or a related field
2. Ability to teach US and world history survey courses
3. Ability to teach upper-level history and cross-disciplinary courses in areas of applicant’s interests and specialization, including Alaska-specific history content
4. Demonstrated potential for undergraduate teaching excellence
Desired Characteristics: The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:
1. Ability to offer Alaska Native and other Indigenous content in courses, and to develop Alaska History course content
2. Ability to work with community partners such as local museums, tribal organizations, and schools to collaborate on community-based history education needs
3. Ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary faculty from a variety of subject areas, and to develop new course curricula of high interest to students and the community
4. Experience teaching in an online/distance or blended/hybrid learning environment
5. Experience working with first-generation students, veterans and active duty members of the military, non-traditional students, Alaska Native and American Indian students, Filipino and Pacific Islander students, and other diverse student groups
7. Potential to deliver effective undergraduate instruction in Southeast Alaska, the cultural homeland of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples.
Typical Experience:
Three years of teaching experience preferred
Required Education or Training:

PhD in History or a related field

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track, represented faculty position complete with a competitive full-employee benefits package including tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
