Position Summary:

UAF's Community and Technical College is seeking applicants for adjunct faculty / part-time instructors. This is an exciting opportunity to help train Alaskans for Alaska jobs within the Culinary Arts and Hospitality industry. Adjunct positions are on a semester-by-semester contract basis. Flexible schedules are available. Classes are offered in a hands-on environment and may be held during the daytime, evenings and/or on weekends.

Duties:

100- The incumbent will be responsible for teaching one or more undergraduate courses in a manner consistent with UAF Faculty Senate guidelines and the specific course catalog description. - Duties include instructing, advising, and assessing/grading students in the identified subject matter in alignment with UAF policies and procedures and direction from faculty program coordinators. - Adjunct faculty are expected to participate annually in scheduled mandatory initial organization or orientation meetings and are required to complete UAF mandatory trainings within the specified period of time. - Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their experience and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students.Essential

The successful candidate will be technically proficient with strong teamwork and communication skills.  No prior teaching experience is required, we will work closely with the successful candidate(s) to facilitate the transition into instruction and classroom responsibility.

  • Baking and Pastry Arts
  • Culinary Principals and Techniques
  • Food Service Sanitation
  • Food & Beverage Service
  • Garde Manager
  • Soups, Stock and Sauces
  • Specialty Cookery (Gourmet Cooking, Gourmet Asian, Vegetarian)
  • Specialty Bakery (Gourmet Baking, Breads, Cake Decorating)

Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Ability requirements:

  • Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students.
  • Expertise relevant to the effective teaching of the specific subject areas encompassed within course being taught.
  • The ability to work with a diverse student population, be adaptable to varying needs of students, and follow schedules and procedures while exhibiting a professional attitude are a must.

UAF CTC employs a diverse population of approximately 35 full-time faculty and 200 adjunct faculty who are represented by two unions and a staff of about 35. Approximately 3000 students attend UAF CTC. They are culturally diverse and include many non-traditional students and students from the military community.
