Position Summary:

Do you enjoy working outdoors? Do you want to grow your skill set or explore and interest in horticulture, landscape equipment operation, tree care, and invasive species management? Join UAS Facilities Services Grounds Crew and help maintain a clean, safe and attractive campus for our community. This is a full time (Monday-Friday) 6:30am-3:30pm, seasonal position. Hourly pay between $14.64 and $18.19, DOE.

100Maintain lawns, shrubs, flowerbeds, start winter prep work; operate grounds equipment and machinery.Essential
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

MSW1 General Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Willingness to learn and perform landscape maintenance & installation, including maintenance and installation of trees, shrubs, annual and perennial flower beds, mowing lawns and using other power equipment.

MSW2 General Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Experience with maintenance and installation of trees, shrubs, and annual and perennial flower beds; experience operating landscape equipment (mowers, toolcats, tractors, skid steers, small tanker trucks) and using hand tools. Experience with sign maintenance and minor asphalt repair.

Combined Knowledge/Skills/Abilities for all positions:

Must possess good communication skills; the ability to understand and follow directions and provide feedback to supervisor; the ability to perform strenuous labor over long periods of time. Must promote a culture of safety. Must be available to work a regular 8-hour shift between the department hours, 6:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday. Must be dependable, cooperative and able to work independently as well as with co-workers of varying backgrounds.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to work in a group setting including following instructions given by a Lead or Supervisor; relating in a positive manner to management and other employees; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

No previous experience is necessary. However, previous groundskeeper experience is preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.

Salary Information: MSW1 /Step 1 $14.64/ hour | MSW2 /Step 1 $16.48/hour  (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule - http://www.alaska.edu/labor/local-6070/ ).
