The University of Alaska is currently searching for an Internal Auditor to fill a vacancy in the System Office of Audit and Consulting Services. This position can be filled in Fairbanks or Anchorage. While in-person work duties are required for this position, hybrid options may be available.

Duties:

5%Continuing Education:  Pursue departmental approved program for continuing education for selfEssential
5%Project Management and Quality Assurance:  Participate in the department’s project management and quality assurance activities to assist in the effective realization of the department audit plan with quality audit services providedEssential
5%Special Investigations:  Possess ability to carry out assignments discreetly, effectively, and efficiently in sensitive, confidential circumstancesEssential
5%Special Projects:  Participate, as assigned.  Recommend special projects, based upon experience and or needEssential
5%Travel:  Meet requirements and recommend improvements and alternatives to ensure timely, effective realization of department audit planEssential
75%Conduct audits with a greater level of assistance from the manager or lead auditor than an associate auditor (Internal Auditor 2): - Field Work:  Perform all fieldwork in a competent and professional manner.  Provide evidential support for all report recommendations - Identifying System Control Points:  Document controls - Work papers:  Prepare selected work papers - Interim Recommendations:  Prepare recommendations for customer consideration: review, considering materiality, pertinence to audit and documentary evidence - Audit Procedures:  Demonstrate complete comprehension and ability to (1) assess validity of existing policies and procedures and (2) recommend sound alternatives - Decision making responsibility, conclusions:  Demonstrate capacity and evidence for effective decision making and drawing sound conclusions - Awareness of the State-of-the-Art:  Demonstrate basic understanding of current developments, associating that understanding with university audit applications. Recommend adaptation, where appropriate, in our audit approach - Customer relationships:  Ensure continuing development of effective professional relationships with customer personnel - Professionalism:  Demonstrate superior performance in all attributes of professional conduct.  Encourage others towards comparable performanceEssential

This is a range recruitment. We are hiring for the position at the Assistant or Associate level, depending on the experience level of the successful candidate.  The Assistant level is an entry level position that does not require audit experience.  The Associate level requires two years of internal or external audit experience. The knowledge, skills, and abilities of each position are stated below.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
(Assistant) Knowledge of generally accepted auditing and accounting principles and standards obtained through formal education  Ability to interpret and apply university Regent's policies, regulations, accounting procedures, and other authoritative literature relevant to the performance of audits.  Proficiency in spreadsheets, database applications, and data analytics. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

(Associate) Knowledge of generally accepted auditing and accounting principles and standards obtained through formal education.  Knowledge of Federal and state laws, codes and regulations that pertain to university accounting and business practices. Ability to interpret and apply university Regent's policies, regulations, accounting procedures, and other authoritative literature relevant to the performance of compliance reviews. Advanced proficiency in spreadsheets, database applications, and data analytics. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working with diverse groups of people.

Required Experience:
(Assistant) No experience necessary for the Assistant auditor position.

(Associate) This individual will have approximately two years’ experience in internal auditing and/or external auditing.

Required Education and Training:
(Assistant) This individual will have at least a four-year college degree with an accounting emphasis and be working towards, or be willing to work towards, a professional certification (i.e.: CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA).

(Associate) This individual will have at least a four-year college degree with an accounting emphasis and will have also have achieved a professional certification (i.e.: CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA).

Salary Information:

This is a full-time, Grade 78, minimum $23.84/hr, DOE (Assistant Auditor) OR Grade 79, minimum $26.08/hr, DOE (Associate Auditor), 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
