Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Southeast Ketchikan Campus seeks a Career Education Program Coordinator. This recruitment is open internally to current UA employees or those otherwise eligible to apply to internal postings.

Duties:

20Assess Ketchikan area technical education and training needs by tracking requests for courses, working with local industry, and community organizations. Engage in student support activities for Career Education, including student outreach and career placement support with an emphasis on support for Alaska Native students pursuing maritime, health science, and other vocational credentials. Work with campus staff in purchasing, billing, student accounts, student advising, registration and marketing to meet the goals of the Career Ed programs. Maintain records following applicable policies and procedures and for grant reporting purposes.Essential
30Work with Career Education program faculty to plan course schedules, identify / support adjunct faculty and assist with course materials / equipment needs. Move / deliver materials and equipment as needed.Essential
50Manage welding and diesel labs, and provide support for maintaining nursing lab and maritime equipment. Work with faculty to draft purchase requisitions, and other required documentation. Maintain supply and equipment inventories including equipment upkeep. Troubleshoot and resolve problems that may arise.Essential

This is a full-time,12-month, term-funded, non-exempt staff position through 9/30/2026 at Grade 76 (minimum $19.34 hourly), complete with a full employee benefits package. Salary commensurate with experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of Career Education programs and their requirements.
Working knowledge of diesel and welding labs.
Experience with using tools and heavy equipment associated with welding/diesel labs.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite programs.
Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to organize and prioritize projects.
Ability to establish and maintain files and record keeping systems.
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision as well as work collaboratively in a team setting.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Must possess a valid Driver License.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Three years of experience working in career education programs.

Experience with, or ability to learn, computer equipment and software to include word processing and spreadsheet programs applicable to career education record keeping.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High School graduation and two years office/administrative experience, or an equivalent
combination of training and experience.
