Duties:

50Allied Health Career Recruiter/Advisor: Advise and register students into degree-specific courses that are distance offered by UAF CTC and UAA. Collaborate across the UA System to leverage resources, align programs, and provide Allied Health training opportunities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim (YK) region. Be a key advocate for the ongoing UAA College of Health and YKHC Administrators to prioritize healthcare workforce needs in YK region. Recruit students and support students to complete Occupational Endorsements, Certificates, and Associate of Applied Science Degrees to respond to workforce and educational needs. Provide clearly defined coursework and advising which will lead to sequentially higher credentials and employment opportunities in healthcare occupations while offering multiple entry and exit points. Use outreach efforts to build on the existing health programs. Keep track and measure success in six key areas: -Number of students registered for health courses -Number of students enrolled in a milestone (OE, Certificate, AAS, etc.) -Retention Rates - continued progress towards an identified goal -Number of students passing state licensure exams (if applicable) -Number of students hired into the workforce -Number of working students who have an increase in pay or position due to higher educational attainment.Essential
50Recruiting and Retention of Alaska Natives into Nursing (RRANN): Identify Alaska Native and American Indian students interested in pursuing nursing as a career and provide information regarding strategies for achieving individual goals through programs offered by University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Rural and community Development (UAF, CRCD) pre-nursing qualification certificate and University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) School of Nursing and other campuses within the University of Alaska (UA) system. Establish and maintain supporting relationships with prospective, pre-major and nursing majors. Assist students to access campus and community support services to promote student success and retention. Participate in RRANN project activities including planning and organizing events and materials to meet project goals. Represent RRANN and the Advising Center on various KuC committees, including the Academic Review Committee and the Title III Committee, contribute to Student Services team efforts, department sponsored events and other campus events and activities such as Student Success Workshops. Participate in and contribute to KuC Advising meetings, Academic Advising Roundtables, and other University or regional meetings of Academic Advisors. Advise faculty and staff on UAF catalog policies and policy changes as it relates to student admissions and program/course development. Advise Student Services Manager and Campus Director about student retention issues and obstacles for students’ degree completion. Maintain regular contact with potential students throughout the admissions and financial aid process. Maintain a database of potential students and report progress within the student services team at recruiting and outreach meetings. Recruit prospective students from surrounding area high schools, and follow up on referrals by email, phone, in person or through virtual meetings. Send potential students information on health programs and meet with students and parents during campus visits to provide information on academic health programs and services. Network with high school career counselors and coordinate on travel and recruiting opportunities. Travel to surrounding villages and cities to recruit and meet with high school students and parents, administrators, teachers, currency distance students, and other potential community partners.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of University environment. Public speaking skills. Ability to comprehend and apply university policies and procedures as they relate to students. Ability to communicate and effectively in person and in writing. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work as an influential part of a team. Aptitude for comprehending another’s situation. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities: Knowledge of UA and UAF structure, BOR policies, and UA regulations and system procedures. Advanced computer skills and experience with databases. Experience with Banner and Degreeworks. This job could best be performed by someone familiar with working in diverse cultures; and a previous position that required knowledge of decision-making strategies and problem-solving skills.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Two years relevant experience in nursing, education, or similar required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Prior experience with students, working in a fast-paced environment, and being able to prioritize work tasks required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and two years relevant experience in nursing, education, or similar required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
