Position Summary:

The Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) is seeking a creative individual with well-rounded expertise in personalized technical support to provide general support for the campus as well as knowledge in online Content Creation. This is an opportunity for someone to use and expand their online social media skills by coordinating IAC’s online platforms and supporting the Content Creation program.

Duties:

10Keep a log that details tech support requests and problem resolution. Track hardware and software purchases and retain records. Keep an updated inventory of equipment at all IAC locations. Compile data for program activities each semester. Attend regular Title III meetings and provide data and reports to grant program manager. Attend meetings and provide reports and data at the request of the position Supervisor.Essential
10Remain current in software and hardware systems applicable to IAC. This position works with the UAF Office of Information Technology (OIT) to assure the methods used to provide services and expertise are appropriate, current and meet university standards. Provide technical consultation on software and hardware use and selection including reviews and recommendations regarding new or emerging technology. Implement technology solutions within the campus when applicable. Provide technology training for faculty and staff on existing software, hardware and peripheral devices as needed.Essential
20Assure that technology equipment, systems and software remains functional at the administrative center in Fairbanks and rural centers. This will include assessing, installing and upgrading equipment and software used by staff, faculty and students. This includes equipment in computer labs, presentation hardware, and audio conference systems. This position will occasionally travel to rural centers.Essential
20Provide technology support for IAC faculty and staff members. Install and configure personal computers and laptops systems, peripheral devices, applications and other software or hardware needed to provide administrative, academic and students support functions. This includes troubleshooting existing equipment and systems. It also includes pre-class support to assure that equipment needed to conduct classes such as Smartboards and student computers are ready and available before class sessions begin.Essential
40Provide technology support for Interior Alaska Campus (IAC) students. Focus will be on increasing student ability to use technology to successfully engage in distance and on-site delivery of educational instruction. This includes providing student support in order to assure that students are able to access and use software, hardware and university systems such as UA Online and university email accounts. It includes providing pre-emptive individual support to assure that students are able to access and use technology needed for class participation at the beginning of class. Provide IT help desk support during pre-established hours, which may include evenings. Provide enhanced technical support for students enrolled in the Content Creator Program classes. Content Creator Program students will be developing original online projects for YouTube, Twitch and other popular online platforms. Provide expertise and guidance that augments project courses and aids students in the development of their projects including hardware, software and platform recommendations and selection as well as troubleshooting.Essential

The IT Support Tech will address the technology needs of faculty, staff and students on-site in Fairbanks and at IAC’s rural centers and also provide remote IT support. This position is integral to IAC’s online Content Creation program. The IT Support Tech will provide technical expertise that aids students in selecting and using software, hardware and platforms for creating, publishing and managing their own sites. This position will work independently and collaboratively with other team members. 

Position Details:

This is a full-time, Grade 79, Starting Pay is $26.08/hr DOE, a 10-month position complete with a salary, and competitive UA employee benefits package.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

This position will be required to have the skills and knowledge to be able to work effectively with diverse populations, students with a low level of technical competency, and students using a wide variety of systems and software and with limited connectivity.

This position will need to be able to work independently, organize time effectively and proactively address technology issues and problems.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years experience in a technology support field and experience with social media.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (i.e. Information Technology or other related fields) and 2 years experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
