Position Summary:

The College of Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is inviting applications for a tripartite, full-time, Term Assistant Professor of Computer Science. The successful applicant will begin August 2022 with a term appointment for academic year 2022-23 and academic year 2023-24. The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org. We are interested in candidates capable of teaching core courses in computing and establishing a relevant research program in Alaska.

Duties:

100• Support the UAA mission of performing teaching, research, and community engagement; • Revise and develop curricular programs in computer science and/or computer systems engineering; • Develop courses and teach at the lower and upper division levels in computer science and/or computer systems engineering; • Help establish a strong externally funded research program; • Mentor and supervise students; • Hold office hours appropriate for the courses taught; • Provide university, professional, and community service.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

We are seeking a candidate with teaching and research expertise, and experience commensurate with a Term Assistant Professor of Computer Science in a university setting. A successful candidate must have the ability to work collaboratively on research and academic projects across disciplines with other faculty. Graduate-level training in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field is required, excellent writing and oral skills, and an ability to advise and work with diverse individuals and groups. An ability to be a public spokesperson for the program and the university, and the capacity to acquire funding from external sources and publish in peer-reviewed outlets in the field are desired.
Successful candidates must have demonstrated their ability to teach core computer engineering and computer science courses and upper-level undergraduate courses in one or more areas of specialization. Course development and curriculum development experience is preferred. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Proficiency in several modern programming languages is preferred.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Length of time and type of experience required for this position should be appropriate to the rank of term assistant professor. General background should be in a related field.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Candidates with all but degree at time of application may be considered with the requirement that the Ph.D. must be awarded before August 2022.
Successful candidates must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred either by institutions of higher education which are accredited by one of the six US regional accrediting associations or by an equivalent international institution of higher education as determined by UAA based on a review by a foreign educational credential evaluation service recognized by UAA.
