Position Summary:

The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy (ACCAP, seeks a highly skilled and energetic program manager. This person will be the lead point of contact for ACCAP whose mission is to conduct innovative and collaborative research and engagement to inform climate policy, decision making, and action for a just and sustainable future. We seek a collaborative individual who can help us fulfill our commitment to building partnerships that make climate-related science directly relevant to policy, management, and decision making and improve the ability of Alaskans to respond to a changing climate. We place high priority on research and action with a holistic perspective in supporting and building capacity in rural and Alaska Native communities based on community defined goals, values, and priorities. ACCAP is housed within the International Arctic Research Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This position offers the opportunity to learn and to work in a highly dynamic and collaborative environment and to build professional relationships with leading scientists and practitioners in climate research and adaptation throughout Alaska. The individual will be instrumental in building and maintaining networks and guiding innovative processes that support climate research and adaptation. The successful candidate will support and manage team integration, develop and maintain connections across people, projects, and organizations, and synthesize program activities for diverse audiences. 10Lead or supervise: Lead or supervise others on discrete projects, as needed.Essential
40Program Management: Perform project management including tracking and organizing program projects, requests, inquiries, and required reports. Serve as primary communication lead to the funding agency. Assist with the grant process and grant management. Organize and lead as needed meetings and teleconferences relevant to program management, relevant projects, and outreach materials. Organize and suggest agenda items for Steering Committee meetings. Schedule, organize, host, and lead monthly climate webinars and other relevant workshops and forums. Maintain social media accounts. Oversee and maintain the program website. Plan and publicize events, manage communication, develop and distribute agendas and supplemental materials, facilitate discussions, and ensure follow-up with stakeholder and participants.Essential
50Research: Conduct research related to science communication, program evaluation, needs assessments, climate change adaptation, and vulnerability including those specific to Alaska Native communities. Develop and maintain relationships with Tribes and Tribal organizations, scientists, planners and managers, industry, and public and non-profit partners. Act as a liaison between the center and scientists, stakeholders, public, and media at conferences and industry events using discretion, diplomacy, and political acumen. Synthesize research results and create reports to funders and other groups as per program requirements. Design and implement systems and procedures. Create presentations and outreach materials about program projects and activities. Ensure quality control. Respond to information requests from diverse stakeholders. Oversee the development of program outreach activities and materials. Develop and maintain databases for research and project activities. Troubleshoot and problem solve issues related to data collection, data synthesis, and interpersonal communication. Conduct stakeholder and partner communication and interaction. Initiate new research, new work and new projects. Work is performed under general direction. Assignments are only outlined. Contribute to work of other research professionals and faculty to produce complete projects.Essential

Ability to synthesize and communicate information and research results for internal and external reporting and outreach.

Advanced knowledge of interdisciplinary research methods, analytical procedures, and peer-review publication processes.

Ability to maintain databases.

Knowledge of climate change science, impacts, and adaptation in Alaska and the Arctic.

Knowledge and understanding of boundary spanning, science communication, and knowledge co-production, including with Alaska Native communities.

Awareness and understanding of Alaska Native cultures.

Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data.

Ability to create comprehensive reports, including experience or interest in basic graphic design.

Knowledge of University, regulations, policies and procedures pertaining to outreach, publication, and grants management.

Knowledge of grants and federal reporting agency requirements.

Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and to respond to and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.

Ability to efficiently and effectively solicit, collect, and synthesize responses from diverse people for completing reports and scheduling meetings.

Ability to successfully lead or supervise others in research, decision-support tool development, and outreach products.

Required Education and Experience: 

Master’s degree and two years relevant experience at the postgraduate level in geography, political science, sociology, economics, climate science, natural resource management, ecology, Indigenous studies, community and rural development, or other related fields relevant to this position, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
