The University of Alaska Fairbanks, Rasmuson Library seeks a Science Librarian. This position serves the leading research university in Alaska, and requires an independent, out-going self-starter who is attentive to detail, and who is dedicated to meeting the science information needs of UAF science faculty, staff and students.
15 Reference and Research:
Provide reference and research services both in-person and online as required. Actively collaborate with other library reference personnel to ensure high quality reference and research support services, through participating in and providing professional development opportunities. Essential
30 Teaching and Bibliographic Instruction:
Teach two or more sections of the university's Library Science 101 core course each year, including on-going, collaborative curriculum development. Teach course-integrated instruction sessions upon request of faculty members. Collaborating with other library faculty and staff, provide specialized instruction sessions to promote library resources and services, and create library awareness among university community members. 50 Collection Development and Liaison Responsibilities:
As the university's Science Librarian, represent the Rasmuson Library to UAF's faculty, staff and students, providing instruction, outreach, and collection management services related to science information resources. Work collaboratively with members of other library units (for example: acquisitions, circulation, library systems, Interlibrary Loan and special collections) to acquire and make available both print and online library information resources in the sciences. Work with Collection Development and Engagement Librarian to assess collections, allocate budget and promote library resources and services. Essential
Experience with library collection development in an academic environment. Knowledge of contemporary theories and techniques in developing and analyzing academic library collections. Knowledge of the scholarly communication process. Demonstrated knowledge of new and emerging library information technologies. Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems and information databases. Evidence of ability to work independently and collaboratively as both a team member and a team leader. Evidence of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Evidence of ability to use information technologies for effective communication and work productivity. Experience in teaching. Interest in the sciences. Preferred: Experience in library collection development in the sciences. Outreach or instruction to library patrons using science resources.
Minimum of 2 years of academic library work experience.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
Required: MLS or MLIS from ALA-accredited program, or equivalent degree from a foreign institution.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
