Position Summary:

The College of Health at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Dean to provide leadership with our innovative programs. We deliver standards-based programs through campus-based, distance delivery, partnerships, and other models. This position will begin in spring of 2022 or as negotiated. The University of Alaska Anchorage is part of the University of Alaska (UA), a system of major comprehensive universities and community colleges. Anchorage, with an ethnically diverse population of nearly 300,000, offers a lively intellectual and cultural life, including opera, symphony, theatre, art events, and varied restaurants, recreational and shopping venues. Set between snow-capped peaks of the Chugach Mountains and the ocean waters of Cook Inlet, the city offers ready access to state and national forests and parks, year-round outdoor recreation, and unsurpassed natural beauty.

Duties:

100Work closely with the Associate Deans to achieve continuous improvement in the teaching and learning aspect of the College’s mission. Ensure program offerings align with workforce needs. Ensure co-curricular activities and programs offered by the College operate efficiently and effectively, and align to University mission and goals. Work closely with the Provost and other deans to achieve short- and long-term strategic goals and objectives of the College and University. Work closely with the Provost and other deans to achieve efficient and effective use of resources across colleges. Direct implementation of strategic solutions for the College’s academic and co-curricular programs. Provide leadership and support for disciplinary accreditation processes as applicable. Directly supervise the work of Associate Deans, Directors, and staff of the college. Direct and manage the College’s budget, to include all General Fund, grant, and Foundation accounts. Collaborate with staff from a variety of campus offices to promote and recruit for COH programs, to engage the College’s alumni, and to seek grants and donations to support the College. Ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations, Board of Regents and UAA policies and regulations.Essential

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

The successful candidate is required to demonstrate the following:
Demonstrated effective leadership skills;
Demonstrated effective supervisory and personnel management skills;
Demonstrated effective budget and fiscal management skills;
Demonstrated effective persuasion and advocacy skills;
Evidence of a commitment to Student Success;
Evidence of a high level of professional discretion;
Three years of post-secondary administration experience and at least five years of faculty/teaching experience in a post-secondary setting;
Demonstrated successful experience facilitating effective planning processes at the post-secondary level;
Demonstrated experience in working with advisory boards and industry partners;
Successful experience working with program assessment, accreditation, and curriculum development.

Typical Experience:

Earned terminal degree and a combination of experience and qualification sufficient to merit the award of tenure at the rank of Professor within a discipline represented in the College. Five or more years of fulltime teaching and/or research experience in a postsecondary setting. Three or more years of academic administrative experience at the program, associate dean, or similar level. Demonstrated effective supervision of faculty and/or staff within an academic unit. Demonstrated effective management of budgets and unit resources.

Preferred Qualifications: Earned tenure and earned rank as Professor from a regionally accredited university. Experience in college-wide administrative roles spanning broad areas of Health. Demonstrated success with administration of both graduate and undergraduate education. Demonstrated success in fundraising.

Required Education or Training:

Appropriate terminal degree or terminal qualifications as described in the College of Health Faculty Evaluation Guidelines
Five or more years of successful full time experience in teaching and three or more years of academic administration at the postsecondary level.

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.  UA employees receive excellent benefits including 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
