The Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking two strong applicants for full-time Research Professional 3 (RP3) positions, to work on grant-funded projects, primarily in the role of Project Manager. Specific duties may vary based on project, but in general the positions will assist in developing and carrying out all aspects of the project work plan.

Communication skills: Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences. Technical writing and editing skills. Presentation/platform experience and skills; comfortable presenting to groups.
Research skills: Advanced knowledge of research methods and analytical procedures. Able to follow project protocols to develop work plans, collect qualitative and quantitative data, oversee data entry, and assure that data coding/analyses are conducted with rigor. May be required to recruit research subjects, administer informed consent per regulations, answer questions about project, develop and maintain a database for tracking project progress, record and clean data for analysis, create reports and presentations, and/or perform literature searches related to project needs.
Team management skills: Ability to successfully lead the work of others, provide guidance and coaching to junior staff and students.
Technical skills: Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite. Experience using EXCEL to create spreadsheets, organize data, perform basic analyses.
Statistical analysis: Knowledge of basic statistical principles and statistics as demonstrated by: 1) ability to conduct basic descriptive analyses. 2) Ability to understand and interpret statistical output for univariate and multivariate analyses. 3) Ability to present statistical output in written format or verbal presentations. Experience using EXCEL to create spreadsheets, organize data, perform basic analyses.
Independent skills: Able to organize work and schedules for self and others on the project team. Able to work on multiple projects and complete all assignments independently and on time; proactively communicate with project teams to agree on deliverables and deadlines and resolve conflicting priorities in partnership with principal investigators.
Problem solving skills: Able to analyze and solve complex research questions and day-to-day implementation problems. Uses appropriate professional judgment to involve others in more complex problems but offers ideas and potential solutions.
Other special skills/knowledge needed for this position: Some in-state and domestic travel may be involved.
Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position:
Data Collection and Cleaning – Survey.
Community Based Participatory Research.
Cultural competency, particularly with Alaska Native cultures.
Experience using SPSS.
Experience using qualitative software.
Prior/current CITI Certification.
At least two years’ experience in research and/or evaluation at the postgraduate level in a relevant field (e.g., social science - sociology; psychology; economics; public health; or education) or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of research and human subjects’ compliance.
REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:
Master's degree is preferred or equivalent in education and experience. Master’s degree in a social science, public health, natural resources, or related discipline is strongly preferred.

ISER’s mission is to enhance the well-being of Alaskans and others, through non-partisan research that helps people understand social and economic systems and supports informed public and private decision-making. Focusing attention on critical economic and social issues in Alaska, the Arctic, and similar regions. The institute has multiple funding sources including federal, state and foundation grant/contracts.
Overall responsibilities for the RP3 include conducting research-related administrative tasks, regulatory approvals, assistance and oversight of sub awards and consultant payments, budget management, coordination of data collection, maintenance of process tracking, data entry, and reporting of progress and outcomes both orally and in writing. The position may also direct the activities of junior staff and students.
Preferred candidates will have completed a Master's degree or have experience in research and/or evaluation at the postgraduate level in a relevant field (e.g., social science - sociology; psychology; economics; public health; natural resources, or education) or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience working with multiple projects simultaneously, being able to ensure tasks are completed well and on time, and oversee the work of others is desired.
The position requires the ability to work independently and effectively within a study team, have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, excellent time management and organizational skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to use good judgment in daily tasks. The applicant is expected to be proficient in computer software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Qualitative software such as NVIVO) and conducting simple statistical analyses is preferred. This position is based in Anchorage, AK. May require in-state or out-of-state travel, depending on project needs. The position is dependent on the availability of grant funds. Salary and benefits are highly competitive.
This position is a full-time, Grade 80, ($58,698/yr) DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
