Position Summary:

UAA Career Services is seeking an enthusiastic, friendly, and positive individual to work 15 hours a week, providing a welcoming environment and promote engagement with the department. The Assistant will serve as the first point of contact for the office, and will be responsible for providing high-quality customer service to students, alumni, employers, staff, and faculty. Ability to work with minimal supervision, complete assigned tasks, and take initiative
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and have strong time management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with student or employer information
Strong written and verbal communication skills


Experience providing customer service in a professional setting
Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
Experience working in an office environment or related setting requiring frequent customer interaction and/ or providing basic customer service
Experience providing basic information to customers through in-person, phone, or email interactions


To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must have the following requisites: 1) They must be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; 2) Have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA); 3) Student enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.


  • Provide professional, high-quality customer service to students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff through in-person, phone, and email communications
  • Act as first point of contact for persons entering the University Hub; this may include re-routing guests and/or providing basic information about the university
  • Provide enthusiastic and informative service to employer partners. Provide them with basic information about connecting with students via Handshake, posting a job, or registering for an event
  • Support students and alumni in activating their Handshake accounts, searching for jobs, and registering for events and fairs 
  • Assist students and alumni in requesting an appointment with Career Services 
  • Assist students and alumni in navigating on-demand career education resources on the website, YouTube, or social media 
  • Participate in Career Services promotion through tabling or event participation (e.g. Fall Career Fair, Accounting Recruitment Week, Resource Fairs)
  • Provide administrative support such as data entry, research, content editing, content creation, making copies, printing and posting fliers, etc.
  • Manage inventory for promotional “swag” products
  • Manage the use of campus-wide Career Services bulletin boards, and maintain current materials
  • Assist with special projects and duties as assigned by the Career Services Team
