This position will work on a project entitled “Comparison of the Seismic Reliability of Structures in Jurisdictions with and without Building Code Enforcement". The goal is to investigate the seismic response of buildings with design flaws or construction errors, which are likely more common outside the building-code enforcement zone. The project will involve full-scale seismic testing of wood shear-wall structures in a laboratory setting, development of the resulting fragility curves and associated probabilistic risk analysis, interviewing and interacting with the local building community about their inspections after the 7.0 Magnitude earthquake in November 2018 and planning educational seminars for contractors and design professionals.
