Position Summary:

UAF Facilities Services is recruiting for two CT2 Electricians. Candidate must have current certificate of Fitness as a journeyman Electrician. At times may work in Asbestos environment, extreme weather conditions and have a non-standard work schedule.


20Perform site survey of each job site and notify any effected occupants and other crafts/trades workers to de-conflict other scheduled work. *Assist to create and implement job plans including materials list to facilitate timely ordering of materials and completion of the job. *Assist in determining the correct method of installation and application for each job. *Assist to carry out materials ordering, supply stocking and vendor use for electrical projects. *Read blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics and wiring diagrams. *Assist in deciding on proper materials needed to meet the electrical requirements of the structure/system. *Order materials through local vendors and keep an inventory of supplies on hand. *Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor maintenance on this electrical equipment. *Navigate the FS work order request system and manage electronic files and pictures on the shop computer system. *Read working drawings, use AutoCAD and make job folders with electrical paperwork, according to regulations. *Document all electrical work. *Other duties as assigned might include (but is not limited to) regular shop cleanup and maintenance.Essential
35Maintain qualification and licensing to install modifications, replacements and installations of electrical equipment and systems to include wiring, conduit, junction boxes, relays, switches, starters, receptacles, breakers, panel boxes, fixtures, electric motors, disconnects, motor control centers, lighting systems, major and minor appliances, electrically powered tools and equipment, battery and DC systems, and other similar type equipment. *Assist in determining the need for contractor assistance. Report results to supervisors and employees involved in the electrical process and assist in determining the most effective personnel protective protocols to use. *Perform work near hot and/or moving mechanical equipment, in high and precarious locations, confined spaces and in adverse weather conditions. *Document all work with "before and after" photographs. *Keep current on new equipment and applications.Essential
45Receive and prioritize work requests. *Coordinate with building occupants to schedule work to minimize disruption. *Request and secure appropriate permits when needed following Building Codes, EPA, and OSHA guidelines. *Inspect and evaluate the work site for potential safety hazards including plumbing, electrical and all other building controls. Make recommendations for the most effective and efficient electrician management work practices to employ including the evaluation of equipment and materials. *Determine the need for and perform area inspections to ensure that workers and other individuals are not exposed to hazards. Assist to plan, develop and install/administer all safety equipment, methods of installation/repair and power tool operation. Initiate work processes following all Building Codes, NEC, EPA, OSHA, NFPA and other electrical guidelines for conformance to Management specifications. *Perform routine and preventive maintenance to include operating, cleaning, inspecting, troubleshooting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems and other similar tasks on a wide variety of low and high voltage electrical and electronic equipment and systems. *Maintain and perform repairs, modifications, replacements and installations of a wide variety of low and high voltage electrical and non-medical electronic equipment and systems for both existing facilities and those under renovation, and includes equipment that is either fixed or portable. *Perform job site clean-up and final quality check of work. *Utilize various lift equipment such as man-lifts and scaffolding in the accomplishment of the assigned work. *Conduct demolition so that it is accomplished in a controlled and safe manner. Document progress information, results, and digital photographs and request to transfer them into the FS AutoCAD building drawings system. *Keep current on electrician technology and methods to optimize efficiency and safety. *Assist in providing guidance to contractors when conflicts are encountered and assist in determining the most effective management options. *Analyze building plans for mechanical and electrical system location, routing and installation to determine appropriate work methods and sequence operations. *Participate with On-Call rotation. Willing to work extra hours as needed.Essential



*Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals and technical publications. * Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to electrical building codes. *Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work. *Ability to use a digital camera and download pictures for permanent record. *Ability to perform work status reports on a lap-top computer or other automated data collection system. *Demonstrated success with customer service skills. *Ability to make a stop work decision due to safety issues or conditions.

Specific hazards include but are not limited to : asbestos, PCB’s, radioactive materials, fuels, solvents, infectious materials and wastes, biological hazards and other materials labeled hazardous.

*Must be able to pass yearly physical and respirator fit test.

*Demonstrated journey-level experience in the electrical trade and related practices to perform assigned duties without direct supervision. *Demonstrated skill to fabricate, maintain, service, repair, replace, install and/or alter electrical equipment and other campus systems related to craft function. *Experience to inspect and perform preventive maintenance programs on electrical and alarm systems and other campus systems related to craft function. *Experience to program, troubleshoot, and modify both centralized and distributed building lighting control systems. Install and maintain lighting control panels, daylight sensors, occupancy sensors, switch packs, relay modules, and other wired and wireless control devices. *Program controls to meet the needs of building occupants. *Experience with maintenance, installation, troubleshooting and repair of electric motors, motor starters, motor control centers, and associated control circuits. *Experience to diagnose and repair problems with building powered distribution equipment, circuit breakers, branch circuits, receptacles and switches. *Interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. *Skill to understand and interpret technical data, mechanical and structural specifications and blueprints
Organizational skills to understand and meet established unit goals and objectives, and meet project deadlines within an estimated budget. *Knowledge of building codes regarding the installation of electrical systems. *Knowledge of approved safety devices and practices. *Ability and willingness to work extra hours as needed.


2 or more years Journeyman electrician experience.
Previous electrical experience on large construction sites.


State of Alaska Certificate of Fitness.
Journeyman level Electrician certification or equivalent.
Proof of a valid driver's license must be presented at time of hire. Maintaining this license is a condition of employment.
