Position Summary:

Are you looking for a student position that will prepare you for a career in business or management? The Human Resources Operations team is looking for students with some experience in an office or professional environment to assist with Accounting, Information Systems, Payroll, and Personnel functions.

Duties:

100%Duties & Responsibilities (dependent upon the department supported): HR Payroll and Personnel: Process NextGen electronic forms, enter data and make appropriate changes to Banner. Data entry into Banner requiring judgement and understanding of complex practices of Payroll and Personnel. Review and approve processes within UA Online, including timesheet and EPAF processing. Manage incoming departmental and employee requests through Spoke; answering questions, providing resources, and re-assigning more complex requests as appropriate. Run and review data queries to help identify and correct data entry errors. Assist team members with projects that require higher level understanding of HR Operations processes. HR Accounting: Manage incoming departmental and employee requests through Spoke; answering questions, providing resources, and re-assigning more complex requests as appropriate. Create payment and journal voucher requests requiring understanding of basic accounting practices. Reconcile credit card statements for self and other team members. Use Access databases to update softledgers and create reports for critical work. Use Banner, softledgers, payment requests, TOAD queries and other sources to research problems with account reconciliations. Assist team members with projects that require higher level understanding of HR Operation processes. HR Information Systems: Manage incoming departmental and employee requests through Spoke; answering questions, providing resources, and re-assigning more complex requests as appropriate. Program and validate control cards for payroll processes. Validate changes to the Banner rule forms for earnings and deduction codes. Run and post scheduled data queries to help HR Ops teams to identify and correct data entry errors. Run payroll processes and other HR reports at the command line. Troubleshoots and provides technical support for NextGen electronic forms. Completes technical projects that require intermediate spreadsheet skills and effective communication skills. Assist team members with projects that require higher level understanding of HR Operations processes.Essential

These student positions are available in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. They provide excellent experience and competitive pay.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of payroll and/or HR procedures, rules and/or regulations.
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Suite, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
Must be able to work under general supervision, conduct research, and use sound judgement.
Must have meticulous attention to detail.

Experience:

At least 1 year of work experience, including at least 6 months in an office or
professional work environment.

Education or Training:

Completed at least one year of coursework in accounting, business, or human
resources.

Also include a resume and at least one reference.  This is a pooled position for Fiscal Year 2021. Pooled positions remain open during the year and applicants are selected as needed. 

Type of Employment:

This is a student position and is restricted to no more than 20 hours per week while taking classes. To be eligible to apply, you must be taking at least six credits per semester and have at least a 2.0 GPA. Students may work between semesters if they successfully completed six credits or more the previous semester and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester. Students working in between semesters may be eligible to work up to 40 hours per week.
