Position Summary:

The Budget and Cost Records team in the UAF Office of Finance and Accounting is searching for a new team member. We are looking to fill the position of Budget Analyst. This position, in conjunction with the Budget Coordinator and Budget Manager, is a vital part of helping manage the budget for UAF as a whole. This position needs someone with strong analytical, research and problem solving skills as well as the ability to build effective working relationships. 15Oversee development, preparation and distribution of routine and ad hoc fiscal reports to Statewide, UAF executive leadership and UAF units. Identify reporting needs and facilitate development of new reports. Update and publish various daily, weekly and bi-weekly reports on Financial Services website.Essential
25Coordinate Banner security access for the UAF MAU to include management of required Banner access trainings to ensure employees receive appropriate access in a timely manner and are well-prepared to perform data entry accurately with a clear understanding of their role.Essential
25Oversee development and delivery of finance training to UAF staff. Engage with department financial managers and fiscal officers to provide various training and technical assistance with all fund types (to include but not limited to Unrestricted, Recharge, Auxiliary, Designated, Multi-year and Grant funds). Become an expert fiscal officer resource to be able to step in as needed across campus.Essential
25Prepare monthly unit management reports to ensure fiscal viability of all UAF units. Develop revenue/expenditures projections to forecast fiscal needs/commitments through fiscal year-end, complex trend analysis and exception reporting. Work with units to identify and clarify unanticipated variances. Develop and modify management report processes as needed to meet MAU reporting needs as well as provide timely reporting, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Continue to develop reporting formats for calculation and presentation of information in a clear and accurate manner. Provide project leadership for periodic process improvements to the UAF MAU management reporting process to ensure ongoing effective reporting. Coordinate with MAU management and department personnel to assess and document needs.Essential
5Act as back up for coordinating MAU positions management at the direction of the Budget Manager to include accurate systems information in both Banner and the Alaska Budgeting System (ABS), ensuring that all positions comply with written policy and guidance with regard to UA position management. In coordination with the Budget Coordinator, ensure that UAF's authorized positions by allocation are accurate and regularly monitored.Essential
5Assist with development of UAF MAU Continuation Budget each year.Essential

Advanced knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles.Knowledge of rules and regulations associated with fiscal activities and compliance requirements. Strong analytical, research and problem solving skills.
Good written and oral communication, self-directing skills, and ability to organize and prioritize a diversified workload.
Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus from staff in other departments.
Ability to synthesize information into comprehensive reports.
Ability to formulate unique and creative solutions for problems.
Expert knowledge of data analysis support tools including Excel.



Four years of progressively responsible professional fiscal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.



Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required, or an equivalent combination of training and experience in budget and accounting.
