Position Summary:

Facilities Services Materials Management department is offering an MSW4 position to a vibrant and highly self-motivated professional, to work in a dynamic operation. This position will provide typical warehouse and expediting support for the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). Central Receiving and Property office is the first point of contact for vendors and other material handling issues for UAF. This Position is critical to the continuous operation of Central Receiving. Includes centralized package receiving and delivery to all University of Alaska Fairbanks and Statewide campus departments.

Duties:

100%Receives, unloads, delivers, expedites, materials including hazardous materials, equipment and supplies, in accordance with established policies and procedures. *Check invoices, vouchers, waybills and purchase orders to verify accuracy of materials being received, stored, or delivered. *Completes vouchers, shipping tags, labels, receiving documents, as required. *Operate delivery vehicles, fork lift, hand trucks, skids, ramps and other mechanical equipment in unloading, retrieving and expediting materials. *Operate personal computer to research purchase orders, print receiving documents, track shipments, and access equipment Inventory files. Maintain shipping, receiving, freights claim and equipment records in a current and accurate manner. *Pick up surplus items from campus departments. Inventory and stage surplus items for redistribution or disposal. Assist with periodic surplus sale disposals. Assist with annual department equipment inventories. Tag equipment. *Coordinate freight claim activity to Include contacting vendors and shippers, insuring Inspection, completion of claim forms, maintenance of a suspense system to insure final settlement.*Process items through US Customs as needed. Complete documents and maintain records. *Maintain warehouse in a neat and orderly manner at all times. Other duties as assigned.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively with other employees, and be able to convey instructions effectively.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work independently and in a group setting including following instructions given by management and/or a Lead; relating in a positive manner to management and other employees; and assisting in providing a productive and safe work environment.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as pressures, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Computer Skills: Proficient with MS Office (Excel and Word). Experience with Banner financial system preferred.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrams, or schedule form.

Preferred:
Knowledge or Skill with data entry preferred.
Knowledge and/or experience in processing items through US Customs preferred.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of six years multi-trade experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a warehouse position.
**Computer experience required. Knowledge using Excel, and Word a must.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Must possess a current Alaska driver’s license and have a good driving record. Maintaining this license is a condition of employment.

Certificate of Completion from technical school and a minimum of six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Forklift Certification is preferred.

Salary Information: MSW4 /Step 1 $20.25/hr.  (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule - http://www.alaska.edu/labor/local-6070/ .   This is a full-time, benefited position with a UA employee benefits package. . Union represented.

L6070- Probationary Period: Pursuant to Article 1.5 of the Local 6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, upon initial hire Local 6070 Bargaining Unit Members are probationary for the first six (6) months of work.  During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.
