Position Summary:

The Applied Environmental Research Center (AERC) is a center within the Business Enterprise Institute (BEI). The BEI provides a platform for a high-level consultancy between industry and the University of Alaska (UA), while serving as a bridge to resources, expertise and talents across the entire UA system. Offering economic development related research and technical assistance, high-level professional education, small business development services, and youth entrepreneurship programming, the work of the BEI not only links UA economic development programs, but also supports business and entrepreneurial capacities across Alaska.

Duties:

10Other duties as assigned as it relates to this job and unit specific to project management.Essential
20Assisting with GIS data compilation and information onto maps. Creation of spreadsheets and other technical reports will also be required in keeping with Department of Defense formatting regulations. Assistance with quarterly reports and submissions to USACE and DoD POCs in a timely manner.Essential
20Logistical support to include assisting with preparations for fieldwork to include travel arrangements, Research PI needs, field gear procurement, base camp support (acquiring and inventorying all equipment, food, first-aid, etc.). Ensuring individuals are appropriately trained for fieldwork. Assisting with health and safety plan and communications plan.Essential
50Assist with duties including wildlife and engineering surveys under the direction of a supervisor and data entry. Survey projects but may be changed depending on funding and team needs however tentatively there is work needed on JBER fish projects, bat survey, forestry, moose browse, mission, and projects in other states across the United States.Essential

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Knowledge of data collection procedures, data entry procedures, and computerized spreadsheets and databases.
Ability to manipulate data to produce charts and graphs to display trends in data.
Ability to interpret data results for reporting.
Ability to work in remote locations, sometimes extreme conditions.
Knowledge of field safety procedures.
Ability to perform data entry to include ArcGIS.
Perform field camp maintenance and logistical support.
Develop tables, graphs, and charts.
Maintain records.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

One year of experience in a field relevant to the research (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and one year college coursework directly related to the research (STEM); or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

One year college coursework directly related to the research(Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and one year of experience in a field relevant to the research (STEM); or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

*Preference given to Master's students and degree.

This is a Full-time, term-funded, Grade 76, minimum $19.34/hr, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.

Term Position:

This position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.
