Position Summary:

The Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) is seeking an organized Junior Project Manager. The Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) is dedicated to applied energy research and testing focused on lowering the cost of energy throughout Alaska and developing economic opportunities for the State, its residents, and its industries.The position will provide project management functions for a variety of sponsored programs and will assist ACEP research staff and faculty in conducting research. This position will be physically located at the UAF campus in Fairbanks, Alaska. While there may be a current opportunity for remote work, the successful finalist will be expected to report to duty at the UAF office no later than 60 days from written notice provided by the university. 20Coordinate Student Utility Internship: Coordinate the Student Utility Internship Program. Serve as a member of the selection committee and coordinate HR related documents with the unit-level HR Coordinator. Serve as a liaison between the student interns and the community utility managers to ensure clear communication and documentation of activities and goals. Provide logistical support to management, utilities, and students.Essential
80Project Management: Provide project coordination support for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Project (ETIPP) and other projects as required, including the Alaska Microgrid Group. Attend regional partner meetings, organize UA team activities, report deliverables, liaison with community applicants, and interface with the agency and other regional partners, as appropriate. Implement solutions to non-traditional situations/issues utilizing the expertise of Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP) project managers to the greatest extent possible. Assist ACEP research staff and faculty in conducting work funded under a variety of research projects, including assembling data and materials, conducting surveys, and proof-reading and editing materials. Assist ACEP researchers to ensure the project goals and technical deliverables are defined and executed in a timely, fiscally responsible, quality-controlled, and professional manner, and in alignment with larger program goals. Monitor financial and technical progress metrics/tools for projects that can be easily accessed and referenced. Work with subcontractors and personnel to ensure timely delivery of technical and financial deliverables. Assist with other project development tasks as necessary, including managing critical data and information.Essential

Ability to coordinate a cohesive research team through technical tasks with minimal supervision.

Knowledge of effective project management tools and methods.

Ability to pay strong attention to detail.

Strong analytical skills and of standard reporting procedures.

Ability to understand and work within financial constraints of funding parameters.

Working knowledge of computer systems and common software such as Excel.

Ability to work autonomously within the context of broader ACEP programs.

Strong writing and communication skills.

Ability to utilize project management strategies to non-traditional projects.

Required Education and Experience: 

Associate’s degree and two years professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education or experience.

Preferred education and experience:
- Masters degree and one-year professional experience.
- A background in science or engineering.
- Experience with UA databases (BANNER).
- Experience with project management software and design tools.
