100 Student Assistant B: Works under general or intermittent supervision. Duties are varied and require some independent judgment. Decision-making may be required in the minor revision of standard judgment. Typically requires previous training and experience (e.g., one year). Some college or comparable experience may be necessary. May require mechanical or technical ability/knowledge. Examples of typical work include: coordinating activities for a function or project; advance office/administrative duties; maintaining computer equipment; basic computer programming; assisting a skilled crafts or tradesperson. May tutor other students.
Student Assistant C: Works under general direction. Duties require considerable knowledge and skills. Exercises independent judgment and decision-making in developing new procedures or techniques. May involve supervision of other student employees. Examples of typical work include: performing complex computer programming, network operations or troubleshooting; advance technical computer maintenance; research, writing or assisting in writing technical reports; assisting in complex technical aspects of complex projects. May be responsible for a facility, building, activity, or program. May coordinate the use of equipment, building space, or programs. May pose as a model. May assist faculty as paper graders. The departments within the College of Liberal Arts have a variety of student positions available during the academic year. Some are paper graders, assistants in various areas of the Theater department, models in the Art Department, foreign language tutors, or office assistants in any of the departments.
Must currently be a University of Alaska student, enrolled and regularly attending six (6) or more credit hours and must possess a 2.0 or better cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Federal work study students will be given preference.

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.
