Position Summary:

The Academy Staff positions will ideally be filled by UAA students from the College of Engineering or the School of Education. The positions are for 40 hours per week throughout the summer (late May- Early August). The Academy Staff will: teach science and engineering concepts to participants, work with participants in small groups to develop solutions to engineering problems (construct bridges, build robots, etc), assist with setup and take down of facilities each session, and other duties as assigned by Director and Lead Instructors.

Duties:

100Job responsibilities include:  Teaching science and engineering concepts to participants  Working with minors in small groups to develop solutions to engineering problems (construct bridges, build robots, etc)  Assist with setup and takedown of Academy infrastructure  Provide conflict resolution as needed  Other duties as assigned by Director and Lead Instructors  Assist in ensuring that the needs of minors/students with medical conditions, allergies etc. are met.  Assist in monitoring and regulating drop off and pick up of minors, ensuring all participants go home with the legal guardian on file.Essential

This position pays $12.50 per hour.

Requirements

This position requires the applicant to be knowledgeable about a variety of engineering disciplines and passionate about sharing knowledge.  The position requires energy, creativity, and maturity.  It requires the ability to work with minors and a background check will be conducted.  This position requires the ability to lift 50 lbs.  It is preferred that the applicant have prior experience mentoring or teaching.

Must be enrolled in 6 credits hours at the University of Alaska for the Fall 2021 semester. Must hold a GPA of 2.0 or higher. High School Diploma and some College-level engineering coursework.
