Position Summary:

The University of Alaska Southeast seeks a full-time Maintenance Service Worker II to join the team at the Ketchikan facilities department. This is a full-time position covered by the Local 6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement and offers excellent benefits. Duties will involve a wide variety of tasks to maintain, operate and repair university facilities. A valid Alaska driver's license is required at the time of hire.

Duties:

12Assists with maintaining building and grounds including repairing fences, gates, landscape, walls, walks, and signs.Essential
12Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins and performs periodic inventories.Essential
12Uses files, requisitions, and work orders, including computerized systems, to maintain inventories and issue materials.Essential
13Conveys materials and items from receiving areas to storage or other designated areasEssential
13Drives vehicles and small equipment including tractors, forklifts, small to medium sized trucks, and vansEssential
13Removes hazards from buildings and grounds including snow, ice, debris, animal wastes, construction materials, and other items as required.Essential
25Keeps building and grounds in clean and orderly condition including but not limited to trash removal, raking, mowing, spraying, and other general maintenanceEssential

Applicants should demonstrate an ability to work independently or in a group setting; follow, interpret and communicate oral and written instructions given by management; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students and business contacts; and complete assignments with general instruction. Applicants will need to be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Available to work evenings and some weekends.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

Combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the job. Prior experience working in a maintenance field.

REQUIRED EDUCATION OR TRAINING:

Any combination of education and experience which clearly demonstrates the skills and abilities necessary to accomplish the essential functions of the job. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions. A current valid driver's license is required.

Salary Information: MSW2 /Step 1 $15.84/hr. (See Article 9.2 in the L6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, Wage Grade Schedule.   This is a full-time, benefited position with a UA employee benefits package. Union represented.

L6070- Probationary Period:

Pursuant to Article 1.5 of the Local 6070 Collective Bargaining Agreement, upon initial hire Local 6070 Bargaining Unit Members are probationary for the first six (6) months of work.  During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.
